The Buzz in second place tied with The Box. Majic is down a full point over the last two books. KILT beats 93Q by a tenth.

A few opinions: Hard to understand what is going on at KGOW. A 0.1? I thought the purchase of SNR was going to help 1560 make a name for itself in this market, but so far its not happening. Country Legends is hanging on to that 1.8 for everything it's worth. I've seen a bit more of the crossover hits at 97.1 with CCR, The Doobie Brothers, etc. and it doesn't seem to have helped. It needs personalities badly. The jukebox will only take you so far.

And finally....How did 97.5 beat 103.7? Might it be time to send the adult alternative to the graveyard?

What continues to amaze in the mid summer PPM is KSBJ's continual market share climb with such a small cume. They're now just outside the Top 5 in Market #6. And if you filter it by general market stats they are even closer to the top. That's big.
Also, your knock on 103.7 makes no sense to me. Houston NEEDS a Modern or AAA outlet for a market this size, if only to serve a couple hundred thousand of H-town's massive 6 million plus population. Why are so many on this board salivating for another format flip on this dial position in a market 3-4 deep in Country, Mexican, Urban, etc. I, for one think 103.7's playlist is solid...they're bland imaging and branding is what could use a shot in the arm. But the FORMAT is viable.

Agreed on KSBJ. They're not just a well programmed, solidly run contemporary Christian station, they're a well programmed, solidly run radio station, period.

I think 103.7 is doing about all you could expect it to do given the signal. Whatever you'd flip it to wouldn't do any better, so my hunch is they'll leave it alone.

Besides, if you program any radio station to appease the people that post here, you'll probably go broke.

Really wasn't a knock on 103.7 on my part. I find it amazing that KFNC has a higher rating than that of KHJK. The reason being as you stated above, 103.7 has a niche format that no other station touches, while 97.5 is one of 4 sports stations on the dial and arguably has the worst signal of all 4. If I recall correctly this is the first time KFNC has outperformed KHJK, and if I had spent the amount of money that Cumulus has to build out KHJK and it was beaten by a station that has been a virtual "throw away" for the past few years I wouldn't be amused. Whatever your feelings are towards 103.7's format as a listener, you'd have to agree that a below 1 share is not going to be looked upon fondly by Cumulus management. Aren't these numbers lower now than they were in 103.7's rock and Jack days?

I certainly am not salivating for a format flip from 103.7. Maybe an ownership flip...but that's another story for another day.

Agreed..Country Legends could use some personalities...but it could also use some variety in the music and artists that it consistently plays...over, and over, and over again....

97.1 Country Legends and 106.9 The Point are two formats that span years and therefore could draw from thousands of songs, yet play the same songs over and over, so that you can turn off the radio during the day, run some errands, and then turn it back on and hear THE EXACT SAME SONG in the same place you left off, really gives me a sense of deja vu sometimes listening to these stations. I understand the repetiveness of a format like HOT, which deliberately plays the "hot songs" in heavy rotation, but at least HOT moves the songs though and brings in new music as new songs hit the charts. I am very disappointed in 97.1 and 106.9 in their failure to take full advantage of their formats... and it shows in their ratings.

I will say that I think the BUZZ has been tweaking their mix of songs and throwing in a few more older songs that still fit their format (although it is discongrous to hear a song from a decade ago flow into a liner screaming about how it is "new music Monday." I have enjoyed hearing the Gary Jules/Michael Andrews version of "Mad, Mad World" (from Donnie Darko) a few times on the station recently, and overnight a few days ago the BUZZ even played Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and the Wailers. That is adding some variety to their format that was greatly appreciated.

They need to make 103.7 at hot-talk like the LIVE format CBS did. A hot talk station. Or a Rock station with a good hot talk morning or afternoon show.

They need to just send 103.7 back to Beaumont.

93.3, 97.5, 98.5 and 107.9 belong to Beaumont / Port Arthur. You cam return them to us with their original formats any time now. ::)

Let's see: More country, yet more country, yet another urban, and yet another rock station.

Yeah, real format diversity there.

Not the 1970's any more.
