July 2019 Ratings

https://ratings.****************/content/arb011

WCSX sees a solid gain for the top spot. Beasley is killing it with this station. WNIC has a slight one for 2nd. WOMC, WMXD and WKQI round out the Top 5.

From 6-10, WWJ saw a drop, hardly a surprise for summer vacation time. Surprised WYCD fell. Music listeners seem to be gravitating toward Classic Rock. WRIF is in 7th. Another poor performance by The Ticket (8th) WDVD, 105.1 and WLLZ were tied for 9th.

NASH and WJLB were flat.

Hardly any change for WDMK under new ownership. WJR at a shockingly anemic 2.0 almost certainly will see some changes from Cumulus in the near future.

WJR at a shockingly anemic 2.0 almost certainly will see some changes from Cumulus in the near future.

They made some changes at a lot of their news/talkers, and the best results were at WLS in Chicago.

Expect to see Ben Shapiro at WJR at some point. Surprised he's not already on.

The Urban One stations are still owned by Urban One (or in the case of Hot 107.5 - leased by Urban One), and to the best of my knowledge, no LMA is in effect between Beasley and Urban One at this time regarding 105.9 and the Praise Network.

Now, I could be mistaken on that very last point. Anyone out there know for certain?

WJR's result is indeed shocking. I'm stunned Mike Wheeler still has a job!

The strength of Classic Rock, in the 12+ is what surprises me the most. WCSX leading, and WLLZ in the Top 10 a few short months after changing formats is indicative of the popularity, I'm just not sure what's driving it.

I doubt it's demo friendly, but the stations are attracting ears.

If Cumulus does nothing with WJR, then it's indicative that either the station still has strong advertiser support despite the ratings or they are basically just going to let the station crash on autopilot.

Yup. CSX is almost always in the top three. WLLZ hasn't fazed their numbers much at all.

Any idea how well (or not) WLLZ fares in P25-54?

I'm not a big fan of either station, but if I had to choose one, I'd prefer WCSX in every daypart other than PM drive. (Cannot stand the PM drive jock on WCSX.)

Press release came out today that Beasley Media has officially closed on its acquisition of 105.9 Kiss (WDMK) + the three translator signals that constitute "The Praise Network."

I'm anxious to see what becomes of 107.5 by year's end. That station's future remains up in the air.

I finally came across some cume (weekly unique listeners) data! Granted, the data I located is for the June survey, not July.

In any event, 98.7 The Breeze appears to have generated widespread interest! I'm happy for them. Their cume is 833,000 listeners, good for #6 overall in the market! They barely trailed WDVD and WCSX in that category.

Here are the top 10 stations by cume:
#1 - WNIC (more than 1.1 million)
#2 - WKQI (only 930,000; these guys used to top 1 million quite regularly)
#3 - WOMC (920,000; this is another station that used to top 1 million quite regularly)
#4 - WCSX (864,000)
#5 - WDVD (859,000)
#6 - WDZH (833,000)
#7 - WMGC
#8 - WYCD
#9 - WLLZ
#10 - WRIF

105.1 The Bounce was the only Urban station to make the top 10, although WMXD and WJLB trailed WRIF by just a smidge. (WJLB's TSL must stink whereas WMXD's must be phenomenal; those two stations are a mile apart with regard to AQH share.)

Here's the real stunner - WJR's cume barely tops 200,000 and is virtually tied with WUOM in that department now. WWJ's cume is nearly 545,000 (that number often cracks 750,000 in winter).

Another notable - 97.1 The Ticket's cume is the lowest it's been in ages during this part of the year. We can all thank the Tigers for that. They are now only #13 in cume.

Very few people are listening to any AM radio outside of WWJ and WJR.
