"Sumner Redstone said he was going to do it….and the Board of Viacom said yes to his plans to split the media giant in two. We now have the ‘CBS Corporation’ under which will operate Infinity, CBS, UPN, Viacom’s O & O’s. Sign and letterhead makers have got to love this guy…now we will see how the stock market feels. Locally Viacom, soon to be CBS, owns Ch-11 as well as a ‘flock’ of radio stations...."

Could CBS return to KSTW-TV for good?

Why? Nothing about this company split will really change anything. All that happens is that UPN and KSTW will owned by a company called CBS instead of a company called Viacom. But since CBS, UPN, and KSTW have been commonly owned by Viacom for several years now, they've had the opportunity to switch CBS back over to KSTW and chosen not to do so -- and for good reasons, since KSTW is now a cellar dweller in the ratings (I'm not even sure it can beat KTWB anymore) and would just drag CBS down.

This has depressed me for some time. The station had a GREAT 10p news product, Gaylord made tons of $$ from the operation ... everyone got antsy about wanting network affiliation. There went all the assets that made KSTW unique (esp. the cable coverage opportunities ... once they went CBS most state cable systems dumped them). Then new owners ... and "run lean" mentality and even a move to a new facility with no TV studio for a major market TV station. Talk about taking every conceivable step to TRY to tank a great operation.....

They SHOULD have gotten a Shurgard unit ... put an automation rack in it ... and stuck a UPN logo on the door. When even staff the thing???
