July PPMs...

Interesting to see WODC keep up there towards the top.. If they go Christmas this year it will clearly be even a bigger jump for them.

WMNI-A has lower cume than 1230.. OUCH.. Does not look like "News Radio" has been a help to 103.9 either..

WTVN continues on a slow slide..

Yeah, it's strange seeing WODC a point higher than WTVN! Looks like June's side for WTVN wasn't just due to Rush and Glenn being on vacation, after all.

After being included in the ratings for 3 months, Jack-FM is now missing again. Wonder why that error keeps recurring?

The alternatives have been unusually consistent: 3 months in a row at 3.0 for WWCD, and 3 months in a row at 2.0 for 106.7. The big-signal rock stations (LVQ and Blitz) are still getting low shares, although maybe their in-demo shares are better.

Sure would be nice to see the Saga stations, Jack (which we should be able to see), WNKO, and the Fan...

Wow, quite an awesome debut for the new WMNI's! Congrats to North American; they're well on their way towards killing two birds with one stone(d decision). Not that there was much life left in the turkeys anyways.
Was any market research at all carried out prior to the format switches? Or was NewsRadio just a total shot in the dark? Oh well, looks like Thanksgiving is coming -- things may work out in that sense.

Every time I tune in to 103.9 (can't get 920 out where I live), it sounds like the same national stuff. If you're going to do newsradio, at least make it relevant to Columbus all day! If they went local from, say, 6 to midnight, I think it'd be doing a hell of a lot better. Yes it's an investment, but that's what it takes to make local listeners turn and pay attention.

AMEN!

Hey Chuck, please keep in mind that you've got a long-time loser of your own in CC's cluster at 1230! If it were left completely up to you, what would you prescribe to get things turned around there?

Pay attention, Jake. I am no longer with Clear Channel and have not been since March 29, so I don't have a loser of any kind. That's today's non secret. Oh, I forgot..here's a return of your exclamation point ! I won't be needing it.

My apologies, sir. I noticed on another topic that you seemed up on some people's schedules at 93.3, so I guess I jumped to a wrong conclusion. I'm sorry.

Even if Jake missed the loss of affiliation, the question remains a good one. If Chuck was the owner or programmer of 1230, what format would he implement to attract listeners and how in addition to formatics make it attractive. (Can't use it as a flanker as CC is doing with it now.)

I early on defended placing Joel in the morning show. Maybe I was wrong. Of course, we aren't privy to where the erosion has taken place.

One thing that has always surprised me is with WTVN's compromised night signal to the east/southeast and west/southwest it has gone against the grain of compromised signal stations and has performed at or near the top of the market. Maybe that is catching up with the station, although during the summer months the signal limitation is least exposed. Maybe it's the ongoing loss of local news and programming talent. Maybe Limbaugh and Beck have run their course. Or it could be Joel and/or Corby.

Looks like North American should have kept music. CHR might give 103.9 better ratings on it's rimshot than what's on there now. With CBS sports coming and Yahoo Sports not in Columbus they could put 1 network on each signal. I do wish all our signals were able to be shown though It would have been nice to see how Kool 101.7 and the Rewind simulcast do now that 103.9 is newsradio.

I would offer that WTVN really doesn't have much of a signal issue in today's world. 6a to 7p is all that really matters in Radio sales and WTVN is on Day pattern for that time. Even in the winter, they're only on the directional signal for a couple of hours before 7p. After that..who cares. Nights just doesn't really matter much, revenue wise. Secondly, TVN's night directional lobe is right over most of the real market population (where most of the PPM meters are.) TVN got lucky...most of the market growth has been north, right where the night signal shoots.

TVN's numbers issue is probably just a reflection of what's happening nationwide with AM Talk. The death knell is ringing.

WMNI should be a classic Country station. Period. End of story. Flushing all that Country heritage 25 years ago is coming back to haunt them now. If they would of kept the FM (99.7) Country, instead of chasing down every known form of Rock looking for success, they would probably have the #1 station in town right now.

In a market with limited good signals, they threw away a solid, franchise format that ALWAYS performs well revenue-wise. NABCO would own the Country format in blue collar Columbus, Ohio. Talk about a money making deal.

99.7 was extremely successful with Active Rock for more than ten years. Trouble is they just won't acknowledge when it's time to let go and move on to something else.

That and I don't think they ever recovered from that royal screw up when they were called "The Rock". The main problem at NABCO is the rocket scientist over there in charge.

I still maintain and (this is coming from someone who isn't a big fan of the style of music) but 103.9 should go with the DriveFX format from I think DG... It would be a dance type CHRish mix... I think it would do better than newsradio that's for sure and it would be cheap to run (since it's coming off the bird) like the rest of 103.9's formats under NABCO's ownership.

Del and I are still hoping to hear from Mr. Douglas about 1230 ...
Hey, wasn't last night's Olympics closing ceremony fun? It was all about providing a consistent, nonstop delivery of the unexpected.
All that one ever gets from commercial radio is the expected.

I'm the one who offered the opinion Chuck agreed with. I don't see why you jumped all over him for that reason.
