JULY RATINGS : What's wrong at B98 & Q100 ?

Danity Kane and C-Side are from Atl as well. Not sure if

"boyfriend girlfriend" - C-Side or
"damaged" - Danity Kane

Were too big in Atl overall, but both of those I STILL hear every now and then here where I am!

So, in other words, I don't think it matters who's from where or who's from Atlanta because... it's still a Bermuda Triangle. Just be more specific about which song is not being played by Usher though. I figured all the Usher hits appropriate for CHR were being played there since even WHTA is playing "OMG".

I've done term papers in college that were shorter than some of electroboy's and kdm's posts.

Were you preparing for a career reading liner cards in :10 stop sets?

Geezus!!!! Wait a minute here, ....again?!?!
PLEASE don't tell me Soulja Boy's "pretty boy swag" is going to be a hi..... actually, never mind - wrong section. I need to post this in the CHR section...

Does Cox own any A/C stations that perform well in the ratings anywhere?

Cox has many AC and Classic Hits stations that do very well. It's arguably what they do best. And you can include B98.5 in that. An off month here and there doesn't mean the station doesn't perform well.

I was extremely excited for Atlanta shortly after I left when I first discovered they had the new 95.5 The Beat and Q100, but those stations only stayed "proper" or traditional for a limited amount of time.

So true, KDM. And the thing about the COX-owned 95.5 "the beat" is that it's got, (okay SOME) of the "hot" energy hit music but, it's imaging/and talent are WAY too "in yer face" HIP-HOP, HIP-HOP! HIP-HOP!!! I mean, I like that fact that "the beat" plays "Bulletproof" by La Roux. But, hearing it played with Lil John and Jeezy SCREAMIN' N HOLLAHIN' over it's euro-pop intro?? I'm just like, "say whaaaat?" (Family Guy reference...hehe)

It's incredible if you look at these bizarre "puzzle pieces" ......(that, y'know....are....uuhhh....) Floating WITHIN, "the Bermuda Tri-Angle of Atlanta Radio"....(yeah. That's it!) 8)

....BUT, our problem here is, WHY do we have 4 stations doing HALF the job of being a True-CHR?

I'll break it down like this..

95.5 The Beat - (halfway there, but, leans WAY too urban, even for a rhythmic)
Q100 - (halfway there but, leans too AC/HOT-AC)...(needs to LAY-OFF the Snow Patrol, John Mayer, etc)!
Star 94- (halfway there but, leans WAY.....WAAAAAAY too AC/HOT-AC)
105.7 The Groove - (halfway there but, leans too RHYTHMIC-GOLD, I guess)

Seems like one of these by now would have the guts to just FLIP the switch and just become the COMPLETE, 100% CHR PACKAGE and blow ALL OF THESE outta the water in the ratings!

UNITE, PEOPLE......ONE LOVE!! Remember the 90's?? (lol)

Got carried away. ;D

"OMG" is played on Q100. (sandwiched between, Rob Thomas and Colbie Calait, of course) But, none the less it's played. Now, Usher's latest, "DJ Got Me Falling in Love" is ALSO played but....maybe twice a day! Where as, when I was in Charleston, SC (WSSX) in Late-MAY, they were playing BOTH, "OMG" and "DJ..." like crazy. AND on Q100, it wasn't til mid-July that "OMG" was put into heavi-ER rotation.

ELECTROBOY: It's shameful that stations in the #7 market act as if they are in the #75 market.
Which I tend to agree with. Don't just sit in the bleachers and watch the ballgame......get your ass
down on the field and participate!!!

;) Thanks gregg! I should. But, what's even more crazy is, go to cities that I've been to (and still do to visit friends/relatives) But, we're talking about Augusta (Market #110), Columbia, SC (Market #90), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (Market #69),
Williamsport, PA (Market #271), etc. They get new and hot music MONTHS before Atlanta (Market #7).

Q100 and Star 94 are "halfway there" to being a true CHR? NOT EVEN CLOSE! Both (especially Star 94) sound like hot ACs. True CHRs would be stations like Z100 in NYC. The Groove is halfway there indeed, but unfortunately they don't have the signal to compete with.

Speaking of rhythmics screaming HIP HOP:
Have you seen this? www.power106.com

This IS Los Angeles's HIP HOP station! It's H0t 97's sister station! - And look at what they play! (yes.com) So when 95.5 The Beat was claiming to be hip hop but playing other things, I never really thought anything too bad about it because L.A. has gotten me used to it. It is funny when they talk about "Power 106 Where Hip Hop Lives" and then a whole mix of house music comes on. Just like Atl is bizzaro world when it comes to top 40, L.A. is funny when it comes to urbans. Only difference is that they label themselves appropriately and play exactly like they are labeled - example; All the rhythmics ARE rhythmic. All the top 40's ARE top 40. Power 106 may say "Where Hip Hop Lives" but they never claim to be "urban". They are probably wondering why don't they have one full on station going 100% urban rather than the rhythmic leaning top 40's, some rhythmics touching on urban, then a rhythmic leaning spanish station, and KDAY, the old school hip hop station that also plays Planet Soul, Stevie B, El Presidente, Angelina..etc at times.

So, in other words, I do see what 95.5 The Beat is/was trying to do. In a time where hip hop ruled the charts, a hip hop image was a brilliant idea for a station that leaned urban. Now, however, I don't think it's that brilliant anymore, especially with two other urbans around. At least in L.A., KPWR knows they ARE the hardest, so they can keep "where hip hop lives" to get those people listening.

You must admit out of all things, the Q100 Sat mixshow is a keeper. At least there are some things there that people in other places in the U.S. could only wish they had on their stations. Too bad WBTS doesn't do anything :(.

UH OH!!!! Soulja Boy "Pretty Boy Swag" in the mix on Saturday Night Q right now!  :D  ;D
It sounds pretty appropriate with the Usher "OMG" beat I will admit.. to a large degree.

Well say goodbye to 95.5 The Beat... one less rhythmic for ATL thanks to the idiots at Cox.
