July Ratings

Congratulations to 98Rock for being #1 once again! Live local radio reigns supreme!

I see staff changes did nothing for The Wolf. ::)

At least KSFM was up. KDND sure took a hit and KHHM wasn't that "Hot," even after the call letter change.

I'm surprised that KZZO did a little better after adopting the "Now" approach cause it sure affected both KGBY and KDND big time.

That's what jumped out at me too. This was the story of the July ratings. Was this just the curosity/novelty of the new re-positioning to "hits without the rap" or will NOW keep this share in months to come?

We'll have to see after the August 2010 book. From the way it looks, KZZO must be putting the hurt on KDND by playing the currents while at the same time luring listeners away from recurrent-friendly KGBY. Either way this will benefit KSFM.

So is 98 Rock 100% Live, & Local? No Voice Tracking I Assume?

I'm guessing that at least part of Joe's evening shift and Mikie's late night shift may be tracked just based on the way it sounds

I am a little surprised none of the other local broadcasters have attempted to compete with KRXQ (or KSEG for that matter). I figured Clear Channel would flip 93.1 to some sort of Rock format, if they didn't morph into a KSTE or KFBK simulcast.

If Clear Channel didn't do it, then I thought Results would have flipped 101.5 to Rock when they moved their Magic 101.5 signal from Yuba City to Woodland.

I wouldn't be surprised if Entravision had at least considered programming Rock at 101.9, but anything is possible. It's a damn shame that excellent, live local talent and a deep music library are a rarity on commercial radio nowadays.

Iwould like to see any company other than Clear Channel operate a competitor to 98 Rock. Where I live, I can pick up both of Clear Channel's Active Rock stations, KMRQ-96.7 Riverbank/Modesto & KRZR-103.7 Fresno and both pale in comparison to 98 Rock, especially KMRQ which is voice tracked on all of its schedule but the morning show. And 98 Rock has a better music selection. Really would like to see either Results or Entravision enter the Rock battle.

Clear Channel's Rock format would come straight out of a tin can. Entravision's would come from a tin can too, but the owners would add some local spice and flavor.

I would hope Results would do the Rock Deed. I don't know how well they are doing financially nowadays.

Doesn't Results own the ZRock station up in Chico? I realize the national Z Rock network is 15 years dead, but a format fashioned along a modern day, local version for folks in the 35-49 category, dayparted younger at night might work well. A nice, hard-edged, hybrid blend of classic and active hard rock........

98Rock and Ratings

No one has speculated on WHY 98Rock is winning. It's because they have GOOD talent! With the exception of the morning show, IMHO. I realize the morning zoo has a big following.

Why won't the corporate run stations step up to the plate and do great radio? Instead, they are content to run their "every market station in a can".
