July Ratings

Monthlies are out for July... and there's some movement to talk about.

KYW continues to slowly tick lower.

WBEB- Can't be happy with that monthly. WISX slips a tiny bit, but is this the closest an AC competitor has come to overtaking WBEB?

WTDY seems to have lost their steam in the past 2 months battling WIOQ.

Not TOO much movement outside those.

Thoughts?

The 4-week PPM reports are not "monthlies". They are full and separate "books".

The diary had monthlies, but they were rolling averages of three not-fully-weighted months. Starting now, even the diary will have monthly "books" but they will be rolling averages of a number of books. In the PPM, there are no rolling averages as the panelists remain the same; weighting is mostly achieved via the panel construction rather than by mathematical adustments for sample vaiations from week to week.

Good for Beasley and Iheart. Some markets don’t even have an active rock station but those markets do have an classic rock and a alternative rock station Chicago comes to mind

Thank you for the correction! Just old force of habit to call it a "monthly" that I need to break!

Holy crap. When is the last time 101.1 was as low as 5.5? Have they ever before had such a drastic book-to-book drop?! The Breeze is literally one point behind them. Can't wait to hear more about the demos. This is bonkers. Maybe they'd do better to just start the Christmas music now! lol

wmgk wowee....this is the first time in their history they have been number one. Are they the only CR formatted station in any large market at number one. What is the secret to their success, the jocks, the music, or do people still like oldies hmmmm. unbelievable...

The big story isn't as much that they're #1, but they're also #6 in 18-34. That's amazing considering the age of the music.

A few months back, they were actually #1 in 18-34. This month WMMR is #1 18-49.

As to other markets, WDVE Pittsburgh is #1, but they play some currents with the classics.

Nope. Also BEASLEY-owned WXSX leads in Detroit, too!

WBEB's precipitous and seemingly inexplicable 6+ slide does indeed translate to losses elsewhere. In 18-34 they dropped from 1st to 5th! , 25-54 they slid from 2nd to a three-way tie (with WUSL and WDAS) for 4th, and 18-49 they bumped down 2nd to 3rd. (Sister WOGL meanwhile has surged pretty much across the board.) Yes, this is just one book but we're talking about freakin B101.1. Their faltering seems to have begun almost immediately after they were sold, though little has changed on-air. Can it really be that this many people are tuning away from 101.1 in favor of The Breeze--which as far as I can research thus far, doesn't seem to be exactly setting the demos on fire? (SRSLY, does anyone know how that station is doing?)

What's going on with WTDY? They seemed to be doing great and then they just sorta faded and seem to be staying put. But it doesn't seem like anything about the station really changed.

If I had to have a job in radio sales (no, thank you), I'd definitely want to be doing it for Beasley. WMMR, though off a tad, continues doing gangbusters while WMGK and WXTU are obviously nothing to sneeze at. This was a pretty interesting book. Even with absolutely no skin in the game, I'm sweatin out the next one and hoping B101.1 regains some ground.

Bwaaahaaaa, Miguelito, about 101.1 considering the Holiday book. Good one!

(I used to work there when they were Eazy 101. One book they got a 7.1 and were #1 12+. I kiddingly asked the PD for a raise, claiming I alone was responsible for that .1. In fact, I eventually did get a raise)

So I guess that, if New York City is not a 'rock town' (as has been posted on another forum) then Philadelphia *is* a rock town? Take a gander at the top three stations.

Again, elsewhere, there had been speculation about the durability of Classic Rock, especially within the demos. My thought for years has been that Classic Hits and Classic Rock eventually will merge, in whatever dayparts the music is distributed. Yet, both genres seem to be thriving in jolly fashion on their own in PHL, so maybe it's too early to suggest a push, eh .... ?

KYW and WHYY will pick up in months to come, as the unofficial 2019 U.S. Civil War heats up.

@ David : Regarding 'monthlies' ..... is there any trend you detect among female listeners, lol ?

It looks like WOGL moved up to the their in the all important money demos 25-54. This is the highest they have seen since last November. Hmm. I want to see another book next month, but it could be 80s Hair Bands(Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Poison) 80s R&B and hip hop (Tone Loc - Wild Thing, Young MC - Busta Move, Fresh Prince - Summertime, Salt n Pepa - Push It, BBD - Poison might have helped this demo.
They could possibly add some Motley Crue, Cinderella, Warrant, Skid Row along with MC Hammer, Digital Underground, Vanilla Ice, Marky Mark.
WMGK, has definitely slowly made the transition to the 90s and this is also paying off.
I am interested to see the next couple of books and if these stations continue add the artists above gradually or not.
I for one, love the new changes on the both stations.
