July Ratings

KIRO, KZOZ, and KISW lead the way. KOMO falls to 4th. KQMV and KBKS continue to battle each other. KUBE stays flat while KHTP takes a drop.

#12 Seattle-Tacoma

It will be interesting to see what at KOMO is once ownership is transferred. Curt Kruse returned today to KPLZ.

Wow, looks like Seattle continues to be unimpressed by Audacy's rendition of Alternative.

KPLZ is well-behind KBKS; about 1.5-5 years ago it was the opposite.

And KUBE is lagging despite being the only [current] hip-hop station in town.

KUOW used to be higher. It's dropped a bit. Not that it matters (6+, and being listener supported in part, they're sort of ratings-proof).

Especially when you tell them 6+ and 12+ doesn't matter. It's like you've just insulted their mother.
How is KOMO doing billing-wise? WINS and WCBS aren't leading in 6+ and 12+, but the very high billing makes them here to stay. You also have WTOP, which is both #1 and a perennial high biller.

Last I heard, I believe they ranked somewhere around #13 in the market.
Other than both being all news stations, WTOP is a completely different animal living in an entirely different environment.

Kelly is correct. They are not in the top 10 billers but have an enormously expensive format.

But the costs are enormous.

... in the nation's capital where nearly everyone works for the government, sells to the government or provides services to those first two groups. Like news-based stations in many world capitals, they depend on listeners who follow government like others follow sports.

And other differences related to that, is the market and associated sales area is much larger than Seattle/Tacoma. It includes Eastern plus Northern VA, MD, and D.C., where those government workers, and contracting companies that support the government, and military.

By facility comparison with KOMO Radio, WTOP has two full Class B FM's with several translators. KOMO has a 50kW AM, and a rimshot FM. Neither covers the entire market.
