Thanks Michael!

I suppose if one throws Univision 33 into the mix almost everyone moves down a notch. I believe they won 5p and came in 2nd at 10p in the May sweeps.

Well, it seems that "Cooney and Curtis" pulled it out at 6pm and 10pm! They're two different people, but one great newsteam! I promise!

Question - how much emphasis does Univision put on these general-market numbers vs. Nielsen's Hispanic-only NHSI sample? Do they ever use the general-market numbers for sales purposes? How many clients who purchase ad time on Univision (and other Spanish-language stations) do so with the same budget allocated for English-language stations?

It's too bad that the NHSI sample is diary-only, even for household measurement. It takes a few weeks following the end of the sweep period for Nielsen to analyze the diaries and release the data. (With the general-market sample, household ratings are measured electronically, and are available on an overnight basis -- demo ratings are measured with diaries, and just like all of the NHSI data, it takes a few weeks for Nielsen to release the results.)

Univision

I can't answer all your questions but I know that Univision is putting a big emphasis on their general market numbers, particularly since the February sweeps when they've been measured head-to-head with the major networks. They claim to be #1 in many time slots and demos in NYC, LA, Miami, Dallas, Phoenix, Sacramento, etc. and the 5th most watched network overall in the U.S. Their TV advertising revenue is skyrocketing, while the others are flat or dropping. Univision just announced their 2nd Q financial results and their net was $117 million on revenue of $630 mil. Majority of that income was from TV operations. The World Cup sure didn't hurt ! Also they just agreed to a $12.3 billion private equity buy-out which was one of the largest in U.S. history.
They are about the only growth story in the TV industry. Plenty of room for growth still as I think some advertisers are still waiting to see how they do long-term and to understand their market.
