JACK is surprisingly strong after over a year in the format.

No Beasley station was in the top 10 for July.

Very good numbers for KWMR. I guess Coyote will have to go through a few more PDs.

It's also very good for Jack, that format has dropped considerably by now in some other markets. Are they all automated morning drive? If so, it may show some people are tired of the mostly talk/little music morning shows.

Yes, JACK is still automated 24/7. As long as they are doing this good there is no reason to change. I think you are on to something, since everyone else talks a lot in the morning, there is a niche for a station that is music intensive. Adding a personality morning show would hurt them more than help

You are right that the Vegas Jack is showing a different ratings pattern than some of it's counterparts nationally. For example, the Seattle JACK came on strong and now is tanking badly.

as microsoft comes out with its version of the ipod mp3 competition will make the technology simple and more affordable...people wanting music will not turn to radio much

Blah, blah, blah.....

I heard that back in the 80's when the Walkman came out!

Radio will always be there!

Love,

Jack

I agree. Radio has always co-existed with other devices. Besides, a lot of people get ideas of what songs to load on their mp3 players by what they hear on the radio.

Jay...

Just be happy this isn't "Country Jack"!

Love,

Jack

I don't think a country Jack would especially do well in Las Vegas, certainly not as good as a mainstream JACK or a rhythmic variety station such as PARTY will do.

Jack, you have a sister station in Denver called WILLIE. They are a country version of JACK, they currently rank #16 while heritage mainstream country station KYGO is #1.

The only other country Jack concept I am aware of is HANK in Indianapolis. They are doing pretty good, they are #5 but have half the share as #1 mainstream country WFMS. Indy is a HUGE country market and can support offshoots of mainstream country, more so than any large market out West could.

In retrospect maybe KCYE should have tried a country Jack angle instead of going straight after KWNR. Although like I said on this board in 2003 Las Vegas is too ethnic to support two country stations. I predicted back in 03 that a secondary country station would not even make the top 10 25-54 and I was right on target.

How many times do we hear that Las Vegas is becoming "more and more like L.A"? It's true and as we all know KZLA no longer exists. Las Vegas is still more of a country market than LA, but the country share isn't large enough to support secondary country stations, country Jack's, etc.

But Coyote was bad from day 1!

I'm talkin about a great one!
