"Jump Around" by House of Pain

I'm as surprised as you are.

The station is 105.7 the Buzz, Greensboro, NC.

I know rock can have rap in it and vice versa ("Walk This Way") but this song is not rock.

We should demand the music director be fired! Better yet let's have him beheaded while Stairway to Heaven plays for the 4 billionth time!

Bottom line is this. The people who listen to classic rock now grew up with that song. It was a crossover hit.

Actually, that was a song that prompted rock listeners to change the station when it came on. It wasn't so much a "crossover" hit, as it was a misplaced hit from one chart that got some airplay on other formats. It was from 1992, when the classic rock era was officially over, even though the musicians who made "classic rock" never got the message and kept on making more for years and years.

What gets me is that when people like me, who ask that classic rock stations throw in one or two songs per day that sound like classic rock, such as deep cuts from the same albums that the hits came from, or new songs by the same artists who dominate the classic rock playlists, we're told by the "experts" that such songs chase away all of the audience. That song is far more of an audience chaser than any song that fits the description I just typed. Including that song on a classic rock station's playlist is a mistake, pure and simple.

The Buzz is actually more of an "Everything that rocks" station. Not classic, but active.

Even at that, it still makes no sense to include a song that doesn't rock at all, that's 100% rap, on their playlist.

"Jump Around" by House of Pain belongs on an "Everything that rocks" station about as much as "Eine kleine Nachtmusik", by Mozart, or "The Blue Danube Waltz", by Strauss. Even this song belongs on an "Everything that rocks" station more than "Jump Around" by House of Pain.

Keep in mind "Jump Around" is approaching the 25 year mark. Tests well, and is a favorite of young and new. Many AC stations have added selected rap cuts to their night and special weekend shows.

You forget that Everlast is/was a member of HoP, who then hit it big on rock radio with "What it's like". There's your tie-in.

Not where I grew up. And I was 19 years old in 1992. Right in that demo.

What used to be "classic rock" is now oldies. As much as some 60 year old boomer hates it, Nirvana and yes, House of Pain have a spot on classic rock radio.

Same when you hear that anti-white; pro-black band, RATM being played on Alternative and Active Rockers. If the listener really knew what they (Zack), were/was saying about White America they would turn them off. Rage = Anger, Against = toward, The, Machine = White people running America. Bottom Line.

Fixed. Zach de la Rocha isn't black.
