June 2011 Ratings: WEJZ in Jacksonville Going Down Lately

Renda Broadcasting's WEJZ/Jacksonville have been going down lately in their ratings and as of June 2011 they're standing at 5th place with a 7.4 share in the Arbitron Ratings which is not too bad, but they were doing excellent several months ago right after the holiday ratings. What's going on? Maybe because their playlist got aggressive a few months ago.

I remember when I checked their playlist around with the winter months Jan-Feb 2011, their playlist still look very good. Lately when I checked their playlist around April 2011 their playlist looks like it got changed a lot because now they also play stuffs like Third-Eye Blind, Tonic, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gavin Degraw, and more along with their original content. Their playlist gotten aggressive a few months ago, but they're still playing a lot of soft AC materials like Don Henley, The Police, The Eagles, Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper, Elton John, and more. I believe the 90s hits included in their playlist are hurting their numbers because it's not so ACish.

Perhaps other listeners are growing tired of the AC format like I am. It's basically the same "current" songs over...and over....and over...and over for months. I think the format has definitely gotten more stale in the past year and thay may be hurting a lot of these stations' numbers. Maybe WEJZ is trying to move in more of a Hot AC direction. I would not see why, though, as that looks like a very good number to me.

Upon further investigation of WEJZ, I see that they play very few AC currents. Most of the newer music isn't really "new." Odd strategy.

The best AC station that Renda owns, in my opinion, is Wish 99.7 in Pittsburgh.

I used to like WEJZ before their playlist changed. They were playing stuffs like Richard Marx's "Hold On To The Nights", Peter Cetera's & Amy Grant's "The Next Time I Fall", Chicago's "Hard Habit To Break".

I do like the 90s hits they're playing now like Third-Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life", Tonic's "If You Could Only See", Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Under The Bridge", but I don't think that fit the AC format well. I realized Jacksonville lacks a strong Hot AC station maybe that's why WEJZ is taking a lean on Hot AC a little bit.

Don't forget to add the other one that Renda owns too, which is Magic 104.1 KMGL in Oklahoma City. It sounds a lot better after their playlist update in May.
