June 2013 Ratings

http://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb007

Not a lot of change at the top. MGK up big, DAS down big, Power 99 up big, Wired down to a 3.2 while Q102 basically steady at a 4.2.

PHT was up to a 2.1, while WWIQ was down big to a 2.1. So, they're tied this month.

WIP(AM) with literally a zero rating. I know they didn't expect much, but wow.

I'm only making my Trenton business run once a week now, but I have to admit PHT is sounding better in the morning than IQ FM. I'm finding IQ is far less conversational and too opinionated. Traffic reports and even local news isn't even close anymore which may be another reason the PHT . IQ was so much better when they first started. I think the next ratings are the key. If PHT continues to outperform IQ, we'll know for sure why they dumped Rush and Hannity in IQ's lap.

I think the other question has to be how IQ is making money. You don't hear that many ads on the station as opposed to PHT. Not ready to stick a fork in IQ, but I'm heading that way.

happy that wwiq's ratings went down. I guess the demise of talk on 1210 was pre mature.

So WDAS-FM drops 3 straight books. Maybe their audience liked the syndicated Baisden show more than Clear Channel realized. That or the increase in rap while WRNB drops most of their rap as well as the annoying jocks like Lady B has caused listeners to switch. I wish we had more in-depth numbers. :(

Once again you guys are forgetting something very important. You're looking at the first month of summer ratings, the ratings LEAST looked at by advertisers and agencies. Numbers always fluctuate wildly in the summer months as normal patterns are disrupted by vacations, school being out, etc.

And advertisers and agencies often buy time on stations based on multi-book averages. A swing in one month means little to nothing - especially in the summer.

I hate to be happy or unhappy about the demise of someone's ratings, but Julius makes a point about the alleged demise of WPHT. They still, unlike WWIQ provide quality and solid local talk whereas WWIQ is just a branded mill of national issues that don't always play well in the Delaware Valley.

With this said, maybe the fault lies here with the program director. They do take the credit when the ratings go up. They must also take the blame when the ratings go down too. I don't know who the pD is but that question should be raised.

Leigh Jacobs is the PD for WWIQ, ed palladino is WPHT's PD.

And WHYY is beating both PHT and IQ.

June 2013 Ratings for KYW-AM

Stunned that KYW-AM has dropped to 6.1 in June. Any comments as to why and what adjustments they can make to the news format, if any?

Less traffic in summer as people take vacations, not a major election year, no 'huge' stories dominating the news, no big sports news, no major weather issues...all news being slower in the summer is good news.

In share. Not airing commercials sure does help with TSL. We're no longer privy to the cume numbers but I wonder if WHYY wins there too. I doubt it.

I guess the only reason Sports is still on 610 is the fact CBS wants a clearance for their sports network in Philly. What a waste of a great signal. Station of the Stars, anybody? Another huge signal with a very small audience is 560. I would imagine Salem makes money over there, so nothing will change, but it would sure be nice to have something worth listening to on 610.

I still listen to AM. I enjoyed 1480's Soul Oldies format. Does Clear Channel think the current format will do any better than the previous format? Smooth Jazz is the worst possible music format for an AM station. It has been argued forever that Oldies, Standards or a hybrid oldies standards mix would not work on AM. Can't sell it..old demos,etc...but does anybody think the offerings on 610 and 1480 currently are serving anybody?
