June 2023 Nielsen Buffalo-Niagara Falls

Persons 12+
April-May-June ... used to be this was called the Spring Book
WBLK remains #1
Healthy rebound for WYRK. Taste of Country concert hype?
WBEN, Kiss and 97 Rock up.
WBUF off a tick.
WBFO and WHTT down.
The Wolf and Mix/Breeze/Star up a nudge, but way too soon to even factor the change to Star 96.1.
Star 102.5's last days unaccounted for here, check last month's number.
WECK and The Edge essentially flat.

It's Persons 12+, the beauty or whizzin' contest. Let the speculatin' begin.

Star 102.5 waived goodbye at a 3.8 (12+)…but since they’re no longer a subscriber—not shown.

Since it's a rolling average, it will take a few more months for the real shift in listening to be determined. Early returns suggest that more former Star 102.5 listeners are gravitating to Kiss than "Mix/Breez/Star" 96.1.

Upon further review, the largest increase goes to WYRK which is up a sizeable 1.4 share. The largest decrease goes to WHTT which is down a recognizable 1.1 share.

When changes of this degree occur in P12+, it often points to gains or losses in the target demo or dayparts (overall Mon-Sun, or the individual Mon-Fri or weekend dayparts.) PDs ... er, brand managers, will be combing the reports,

It's also possible that WBLK and WYRK will pick up some former STAR listeners. They certainly aren't going to WBUF or The Wolf. Those 2 stations COMBINED only have a 3 share...

Anything is possible, but so far the results might indicate that WYRK benefitted from the change on 102.5. There's no evidence that WBLK did.

True, anything is possible, but June would be a murky month on which to base any conclusion regarding listener movement and trends. Star officially pulled the plug with Rob Lucas saying farewell on June 9th, then went into simulcast mode with Kiss for approximately 12 days before giving way to EMF's CCM format. The Nielsen rating period concluded June 21st. As such, there wasn't an extensive period on which to base listener movement in this diary market. Anecdotally, Kiss (moving 3.7 - 4.6 P12+) would seem to have benefited by virtue of the simulcast on 102.5. If Buffalo was a PPM measured market, results would be more revealing.
