June is a month for "fishing"

Be careful in responding to any type of job openings this month. Stations use this month for E.O.E. filing. So before you work hard on that audition, the editing , the packaging, the mailing image, ..check them out ,network, and see if the opening is truly real. One station just recently posted an opening and someone found out it was a FAKE. No,it wasn't me. Management scums love to play these games and give false hope to applicants. So please check them out first and don't be a victim. The Ad for KLIF on the TAB site is not real by the way.

Hey, maybe it's a great time to host another "Radio Job Fair"!! You know, dress up, get the package ready, show up at the Galleria, and find that 3 out of 40 stations actually sent representatives over there, and witness a crowd of 18-yr old broadcasting school rejects and acting school drop-outs packed around each table in groups of 100 or more, trying to get the rep's attention. Oh, and don't be shocked when you're the only one wearing a suit.

Such a great environment to do business.

Oh, but you'll get an application and a free bumper sticker, at least while supplies last. And, if all else fails, and you can't get your package into the rep's hands, just find the prize van parked out front, and clip your package under the windshield wiper...with all the others.

Yeah, I got snookered into this scam...ONCE.

Speaking of KLIF, that wonderful opening they DON'T have, pays the Susquehanna maximum wage of $8.50 an hour. Would you like fries with that?

Many of them truly love playing mind games with people who really need the work and have a sincere desire to get the job done. Of course it's a big ego trip for those to whom all those packages are addressed, an opportunity to play the part of the king and chunk endless numbers of auditions into the round file. These are the people who've forgot the days when they themselves were shipping paper and hoping for a break. To those types, their hallowed position of PD now is the payback for when they most likely lacked the talent to even be considered, so this is their small way of passing on the mistreatment to others. This certainly does not apply to those PDs and others who respond to every application (even those from people who say "I've been told I sound like an announcer") and turn every search into a true talent hunt. Kudos to the true professionals of the business. Rasberries to the pretenders who didn't have it then and don't have it now, except for what has been handed to them.

Bitter, enjoyable, and oh so true. Job fairs and the like are firm witness to some of the shabby people who infect parts of broadcasting and loud testament to the for s**t tactics they will employ to screw over others.

I attended one of those 'job fairs' in san francisco. all sales reps, interns and one on-air/p-d type. everyone talked a good game and in the end, most of the tables cleared about an hour before the event was over. the real networking was conducted in the hotel bar. all that got was a couple of business cards. what a scam. but boy did they ever promote the thing!

I actually got my career in radio started by a job fair. I'd say it turned out pretty well. I met alot of the right folks, once I got a job I was always around and I worked my way up the ladder. But when it comes time you're usually one of the first to go. Lesson to all the startup radio kids out there.
