June Lockhart, iconic Lost in Space and Lassie star, died at age 100 after remarkable career spanning TV, film and NASA advocacy.
she made it to 100 years, she lived a long good life for a Hollywood actress, may she rest in peace.
What I didn't realize was after Lost In Space, she became a NASA spokesperson, and a life long advocate for space exploration, and attended launches with Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong.
Lassie predates me, but Lost in Space was a childhood favorite of mine.

Always though of her as a "second mom". Liked Lassie, I'm a dog lover [not in THAT way, ya freaks!] so could have done without the humans and just watch Lassie running around, peeing on trees, saving dumb humans that dropped into wells,and more. But since I'm a sci-fi nut, LOVED her in Lost in Space. Started out very science-tificy but by the third season it had become the Dr. Smith & Robot hour. And good old Johnny Williams did the theme for it.....better known as John Williams today. Guess he kept his hand in the sci-fi genre as he did the soundtrack for Star Wars, et. al.
And her daughter Anne Lockhart kept the science fiction legacy going with her role in the original Battlestar Galactica.
Did you know some of the final CBS season was done without people?
I don't remember whether she was on the show when I watched it. I think I saw reruns, and new episodes in the later years.

Yep. But by then I had more or less "aged" out of Lassie and found other things to do especially after I got a driver's license. But Lost in Space, I'd watch that forever except for that dreadful 3rd season. I think I was done with it after the next to last horrendous episode "The Great Vegetable Rebellion" .
Soon after "Lost In Space", which ended its 3-season run in 1968, she took the place of Bea Benaderet who had passed away during the still running "Petticoat Junction". She played Dr. Janet Craig who took up residence in the Shady Rest Hotel.
To be more precise, during the second season it, increasingly, became the Dr. Smith, Will and the Robot hour.
And that's too bad...too bad. After the rather psychedelic "The Great Vegetable Rebellon" there came one of my Top 5 favorite episodes, "Junkyard In Space". It has all new music that was quite effective in setting a slightly unsettling mood on that episode. Although, at its base, it's just another, typical, "Lost In Space" show, the music helped raise it up to an interesting level.
Landing on a planet where the highest intelligent form of life are plants, is an interesting concept. But then having a giant carrot trying to turn the Robinson family into trees as the storyline...yeah, an interesting idea that went down the wrong road! Lol
She was the ultimate TV mom. RIP
Too bad they didn't have a crossover episode where Dr Smith, the Robot and Will are trying to hide out from Tybo, the walking, talking carrot and Uncle Joe ends up eating him. [Yeah, I know it's far fetched. Uncle Joe would NEVER be caught dead eating something healthy.]
