Just A thought on CC Houston Cluster...

Anybody think thatCC is purposely destroying it clusters that it will not be holding onto for long?

A. There's no plans to get rid of the Houston cluster.
B. What are they "destroying" at CC Houston?

1. Not getting rid ok they might just as well except for the Buzz they sound bad.
They are eliminating staff almost weekly. That is something you do when you have long range plans?

2.What have they destroyed 740.950,790,101.1 and they are working on the collapse of the Arrow.
They have really mellowed the Arrow out. The sad thing is The Arrow is a big $$$$$ maker.

I don't think it's purposely destroying them, it's dumbing down radio to the lowest common denominator. Just my opinion.

How did they destroy 101.1? Were you a fan of Hurban? (sarcasm, i know he's talking about Rock 101, )
I also believe 740 has been like this for years. Don't think about them destroying it, its more like making it worse. Another thing, if the KKRW is a big $$$$$ maker, don't you think this has happened because of the changes they've made?

...there is no way CC is selling Houston.

The average American has an 8th grade education and radio caters to them...not you.

Its why they eat at McDonalds and we cook our own food.
It's why they drink Coke and we drink water.
It's why they buy cars from...whomever...with outragous interest rates, and we do our homework.

..now excuse me, i've gotta go microwave my Lean Cuisine and drink my wheat-grass shake. :p

Your right on Mr. Dead.

Advertisers are like young, horny guys. They want bodies, not brains. 100,000 warm, poor idiots are more valuable than 1,000 smarty-pants making six figures. Support the advertisers that support what you like and perhaps it will survive. If you don't, then buy an Ipod and complain to Apple when it breaks in two years. They'll be glad to sell you another at 200% profit.

I off for my barley and hops....

Fanfare,
101 740 950 93.7 all victims or soon to be. 101 has not even made inroads yet.

Yes 93.7 is a big $$ and yes again they will mess with it too. They are going to kill it too by the 1qtr., and I dont mean change of format.

I am reminded of the bombing of Berlin at the end of WWII...Hitller sent his men to destroy what we left.

Same idea

Right now, Clear Channel is not concerned with ratings, quality of the product, or what listeners think. And it is intentional. Yes, they are basically trying to collapse the company, so the powers-that-be can get the most bang for the buck when they cash out. This is why they brought in a non-radio person to do what the rest of us would not have the stomach to do. CC knows exactly what it is doing. The best we can hope for is that the stations will eventually wind up in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing and wants to run them as a business.

The next Houston radio dream job: GM of the new KTRH/KPRC under new ownership. You have nowhere to go but up. The next PD or GM of KPRC should send Michael Berry a gift and huge thank you note for taking it to the ranks of the bottom-feeders (1070, 1320, 790, 650, etc...).

>>>The next Houston radio dream job: GM of the new KTRH/KPRC under new ownership<<<

Ad Guy is right. And the second radio dream job is the Program Director who can fix these properties from a programming stand point. Yep, you can even make the 790 viable again!

Truthsayer, have you been fired by Clear Channel? Is that the reason for all the hate? How can you say a company that has 5 of the top 10 stations for adults 25-54 is in such bad shape? You have an anger mangement problem Dude.

No I have never been fired from CC. I base my coments on what is done. Sad enough they are getting rid of staff and cutting budget and keep cutting to the point where the local office is getting very empty just by the postings here. I have friends who work there and have worked there and it is a somber mood daily.

I am a outsider myself.
I am not a dude!

You are correct 5 of 10 is a good avg. but I also look at the trend in cuts across the board that indicates to me trouble.
I guess my anger is at what is happening it really is troublsome. I would feel the same way about any co. doing this.
I love radio and wish we could get it again here. What I hear is sad except the Buzz who sound like they care.

Truthsayer you honestly don't have a clue!! I must admit I work for Clear Channel Houston in prrgramming, and I'm happy. I don't see near as much gloom and doom as you. Everything I see in PPM spells out success: KODA, KKRW, KTBZ are consistantly in the top 3 for Adults 25-54. KLOL is now the #1 Hispanic station in midday and afternoons, and that's a fact, and Mix is consistantly in the top 10.
KTRH was in the top 10 when diary was the methodology, but now sits around 15th in PPM. We all know PPM is not friendly to AM's. In PPM CC owns three out of the top 4 rated AM stations.
I'm not as in tune w/ advertising billings, but sure hear a lot of celebrating going on down there.
Yes people lose their jobs, but doesn't that happen everywhere? Last time I checked we have over 300 employees. How's that "empty"
We have a very positive work environment, which I believe has been created by our new management staff.
Michael Berry is a much better leader than Ken Charles, I admit he's not very good on air. Chris Baker had bad ratings and a bad attitude, so what if he's gone!! What are we missing, neither of his shows broke the top 20. Every industry must change or die, radio is not exempt! You need to haul ass in 2007 and change your name, because you don't know the truth Dude !

Wait, if you're in programming and you criticized M. Berry you must be M. Berry. Well, if you are get off the air. It's killing your political future. You are definitely more suited to your other business ventures (atty & real estate). I'm sure you are very good at those other ventures. All you're doing to KTRH/KPRC is killing once great radio stations. You have no skill (which comes from years of practical experience) in programming nor running a radio station. You should buy one and get someone very good to run it for you, then watch and learn. There are other ways to skin that cat. Supposedly BizRadio is about to go dark because of the ineptitude of its owner Dan Frishberg. Perhaps you can start a business formated station where you can voice your politics ala Dan Patrick. He's very good at it and it got him elected to the state senate. Just trying to give some advice.

...Michael? Is that you?

**just curious**

Its no mistake that this topic is about the CC Houston cluster....its just missing the four letter word that should follow it.

Just wondering how many of the 300 employees actually earn a living wage with health benefits. I'd venture to guess that number is significantly less than 300.

Stan,
you may choke on my drink with that one!!! ;)
However, the CC DFW cluster can be called that as well.....I thought it would get better with JD Freeman returning...(at least they got rid of the a$$hole Tom Schurr, who tanked the Eagle and KZPS...by moving him to Memphis and then promoted him to Regional VP with CC...figures! SLAG always rises to the top) but it hasn't. Corporate is totally in control!!
