Just Back from a Funeral...

It was really great to see folks that I haven't seen since, well, the last funeral of a friend in the business. It's truly a shame that the only time so many of us get together is to pay last respects. Someone posted on this site earlier about "what Jackson needs". I think Jackson(or Hattiesburg,Tupelo, Biloxi, etc.)could use a party right now. Jackson needs a party to celebrate the living friends we have in the broadcasting business. (And please don't mention the MS Association of Broadcasters convention. Most of us know that's primarily the same people doing their own thing every year, and if you're not an owner or manager they don't want you there.)I'm gonna stand on my soapbox today and encourage everyone reading this to call or email someone in this business that matters to you. Or buy 'em a beer or two! Thank them for being a part of what you do. I wish I had thanked "Radio Bob".

I'll raise a glass from down here in Tampa Bay with good memories of over a decade of gettin' hired, gettin' fired, movin' up, movin' down, survivin' hurricanes, floods, and owners who didn't belong in the biz.

Being out of the business now for over ten years, I can reflect with a laugh and think of some great class folks like Larry and Randy Blakeney, who I worked for at WKNZ/Collins when they ran it for their uncle...Craig Dale, who befriended me when he was working afternoons at WXXX/Hattiesburg and eventually did weekends in Jackson and was the best man at my wedding...Walter Johnson, one of my closest friends when he worked at WFOR/WHER Hattiesburg and later became news director at WHLT/Hattiesburg-Laurel just after it's local operation started (I hope he's doing well at the federal facility)...just a few of the people who I've had the pleasure of knowing during my career in the Pine Belt.

Appreciate the time you have, because time is fleeting for us all.<P ID="signature">______________
