OK...I am a radio guy, so this doesn't impact me...but, I am just curious...are the weekend anchors and weather people on the stations here (Houston) considered full-time employees or are they considered part-timers?

I know I have seen some of the weekend anchors doing pieces on Monday and Tuesday...so, I am thinking that this makes them full-timers...having them work Saturday, Sunday, and other days, too.

Houston, being a major top-10 market, I imagine most of the on-air news staff at the television stations are considered full-time. Even if they are not reporting during the week, they may be producing or working on sweeps-month feature reports.

You get into the smaller markets (Beaumont-Port Arthur, Lufkin, College Station, etc) and you usually see the weekend folks as part-timers.

I know here in N. Mississippi (I used to live in Houston) where I'm going to school, the weekend news anchor does some reporting during the week but the weekend meteorologist (usually one of MS State's Broadcast Meteorology senior-level or graduate-level students) is paid a set stipend to do the weekend weather segments (Saturday 6 & 10pm, Sunday 10pm only) as well as a stipend for any fill-in work they might do during the week.
 
Tim is right. In major markets, most people you see on weekend TV newscasts are full timers.

Their five-day work week includes Saturdays and Sundays.

They typically work Wednesday through Sunday, and are off on Mondays and Tuesdays.

It varies from station to station. Some work Thursday through Monday.
