"Just Dance" on AC?

I was fooling around and got a rimshot from a small nearby city that carries Waitt's AC format...they were playing Lady Ga Ga's "Just Dance." What do you all think about that song on an AC? Waitt has always been a bit more edgy, but that just seemed a bit odd.

Are there any other AC's playing this? What do you all think about this on an AC station? I say thumbs down - Hot AC, ok.....AC? No.

Makes perfect sense. Adults (females) generally like it and it's contemporary. Just because it's up tempo doesn't mean it doesn't fit to an average listener.

No excuse. AC should be soft unless it's hot AC. After all, it's forced on us. See "I went to the barber".

Thankfully, it seems many folks recognize that definitions and tastes change over time and don't remain mired in some long-ago standard that makes no sense here in the modern world.

I love how on the one hand you have people complaining how radio has lost ground by being too predictable, too bound by tight formats and playlists. So what happens when it expands and makes an effort to understand the average--i.e., non message-board type person--person's tastes aren't going to be what their parents' generation was? They get skewered because Bon Jovi or Lady Gaga is somehow too "hard" for some sensitive ears.

It's fine that it isn't to anyone's liking. Different strokes and all that. But it does fit the literal definition of being "adult" and "contemporary." It's what the target audience likes, so it gets played. Business 101.

I read the barbershop story for a while, until I couldn't control my laughter at the "horrors" of such loud devil music daring to be played in a place they cut hair.

But I was trying to make the point that was actually a conservative station. Not conservative enough for me, but it could have been worse. The grocery store is a nightmare. And yet that too might be conservative.

vchimpanzee, exactly what do you expect out of AC? Sorry, it's evolved.

Here is what a typical AC station is (and what I would expect from one) in 2009. http://www.tunegenie.com/onair/wspa
I expect people forcing their background music on me to be more considerate.

At least the groecery store Muzak doesn't sound as bad as some of the ACs do.

And I get a bonus at least once in my usual store. "Little Jeannie" by Elton John last Saturday, for example. If they're going to force music on me, that's more like it.

Another weird one. I'm noticing a few ACs (mostly Clear Channel's premium choice) are playing Katy Perry's "Hot and Cold." The song has barely even charted anything for AC. I hope that one goes away.
