Just Discovered This

Re: Just Discovered This (New LPTV for Selma, RF 35)

If it gets built, I'd expect some sort of cost-effective programming.

At best, maybe A1 with some local public affairs.

At worst, an even less compelling, less powerful version of WBIH, which - I assume - has must-carry status, which Richardson-35 as an LPTV would not.

I suppose someone can ask Richardson B'casting what they are planning.

WBIH is already doing A1.  I don't think this new station will air that network but then again I could be surprised and we may end up having two A1 stations here.

I do know that WBIH is a must carry, since it's a full powered TV station.  Wish they could get them some local businesses to help keep them on the air.  Last time I checked, they still don't have any.

I find it amazing that this TV station is still broadcasting.  Dr. Flinn must be putting some of his own mega bucks into this TV station.  If not, then they must be doing something right or otherwise this station would've been history long time ago.

P.S. For years now WBIH has tried various lesser known networks to survive. (Praise TV [Now Silent], UATV [Now Silent] and Jewelry TV)  A1 may be the one that'll finally give them that traction they've been needing, since signing on in 2001.

Some markets do have multiple A1 affiliates. Down here in Pensacola we have WFBD doing several hours of A1 programming a day, I suppose A1 would be considered their primary affiliation as they just show infomercials the rest of the day. I have also seen an A1 slide pop up a couple times on WPAN, but I don't know if they are carrying enough A1 programs to be considered an affiliate. Also, WBQP-LP carried about 50% of the A1 schedule until they signed off their OTA signal on channel 12 a few months back. I believe they suffered tower damages in the hurricane that finally caught up with them... as far as I know WBQP-LP is still on Cox cable in Pensacola.

On the other hand... I wouldn't expect much from an LPTV application. Since the DTV switch all the LPs in Pensacola have gone off the air. Before that about 90% of LPTVs that I had seen carried either dead air, religion, shopping, music videos, religion or shopping.

I have WBIH 29 through Mediacom Monroeville-area cable. It has to survive on almost nothing but infomercials, because 1) I've never seen a local business spot and 2) WBIH is notorious for pre-empting the America One schedule for infomercials. It's sad because 29 would be the perfect place to house MyNetworkTV for the Montgomery TV market--especially since WRJM 67 looks to be deader than a doornail.

Meanwhile, a little cooperation with the local cable company might make the new local TV station a worthwhile effort. Community issues shows, high schools sports, local church programming...the usual stuff. Might be a fun experiment.

I've thought that as well, but it all depends on the obtaining of cable carriage, which would be precarious at best. Without it, Richardson-35 will only have a potential audience of about 3000 - 6000.

I've wondered the same thing about MY on 29 since CW is on both 22 and 32.2

BTW, Wikipedia says that WCOV added This TV on 20.3 Can anyone confirm?

It's on there! Discovered it a few weeks ago, while changing channels.

It would be nice if WBIH could snag MY Network but i highly doubt if Dr. Flinn would even entertain the idea.
