Just thought of this recently as I listened to Kenny G's "Millennium Mix" again recently and got amazed that it's already been 10 years since it was all over the radio while many of us worried about Y2K.

What if Kenny G had produced a 2000s "Decade Mix," similar to his "Millennium Mix/Auld Lang Syne" 10 years ago, as we ring out 2009? What historical events from this decade would have been represented (other than obvious events like the 2000 Florida recount, 9/11, Katrina, etc.) in this song?
My picks (in roughly chronological order) of what historical events/soundbites could have been candidates for representation in a hypothetical Kenny G "2000s Auld Lang Syne/Decade Mix":
--Ringing in 2000/little or no worldwide effects of Y2K
--Elian Gonzalez
--"Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" (with Regis asking, "Is that your final answer?")
--The 2000 election and the Florida recount
--Gary Condit/Chandra Levy disappearance (spring 2001)
--Barry Bonds breaks Mark McGwire's single season HR record (2001)
--Fall of Enron
--9/11 attacks (major emphasis in the song)
--War in Afghanistan
--No Child Left Behind (early 2002)
--"American Idol" (with either a Simon Cowell soundbite or Kelly Clarkson singing "A Moment Like This")
--DC Sniper attacks (Oct. 2002)
--Death of Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone (Oct. 2002)
--Outbreak of Iraq War (March 2003) (and other Iraq War-related soundbites used at various other points in the song)
--East Coast blackout (August 2003)
--2004 Primary Election campaign (with Howard Dean's Iowa scream used in the song)
--Death of former President Ronald Reagan (June 2004)
--2004 Election (perhaps a soundbite of John Kerry's infamous "I voted for the war before I voted against it" quote)
--Election of Barack Obama as US Senator from Illinois (Nov. 2004)
--Hurricane Katrina
--Hurricane Rita (late Sept. 2005)
--Mark Foley scandal (fall 2006)
--Democrats regain control of Congress and Nancy Pelosi becomes first female Speaker of the House (Nov. 2006)
--Death of former President Gerald Ford (Dec. 2006)
--Democrats Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama announce their presidential candidacies (Winter 2006-2007)
--Death of Anna Nicole Smith (Feb. 2007)
--Britney Spears' troubles (ca. 2007)
--Windows Vista tone (when you turn on your computer)
--Greensburg, KS tornado (May 5, 2007)
--I-35W Bridge collapse in Minneapolis/St. Paul (Aug. 1, 2007)
--Larry Craig scandal (Aug. 2007)
--2008 Primary Election Campaign
--"Super Tuesday" tornado outbreak in the Southern US (Feb. 5-6, 2008)
--Parkersburg, IA tornado (May 25, 2008)
--John McCain selects Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate (Aug. 29, 2008)
--Collapse of Lehman Brothers (Sept. 2008) and the subsequent US/world economic collapse
--Election of Barack Obama as US President (Nov. 4, 2008) (probably would have a strong emphasis on this in the song)
--Inauguration of President Barack Obama
--Economic Stimulus
--"Dancing with the Stars"
--Health Care debate
--Death of Michael Jackson (June 25, 2009)
The song would probably had been recorded/produced before the death of Senator Ted Kennedy (Aug. 8, 2009), so IMO the "Decade Mix" would have probably ended with soundbites related to the death of Michael Jackson.
Feel free to chime in on what other events could have been included in a hypothetical 2000s "Decade Mix" if Kenny G had created one for this decade, or comment on my choices of events above. Have fun and Happy New Year (and happy new decade too)!
