Just for fun...

What would be your all time LV jock lineup? Try to stay about 1965-present. You have to pick a jock for each time slot, and each jock has to be famous for working that time slot. For example, you can use Mick Hagerty for mornings, Guy Ackley for mid-day's, Jeff Frank for PM drive, and Jefferson Ward for evenings, but you can't use Hagerty for mornings, Uncle Bob for mid-days, and Gunther for PM drive.
Now, also pick an actual LV station era for your format/imaging. For example, you can pick WSAN when they were AOR, Q-100, or Country WXKW-FM. What signal would you most want? What slogan/imaging package? WAEB Seventy-Nine-OH? WLEV-Not Too Hard, Not Too Soft. Just Right? We can have some fun with this. It will also be cool to see what names we all remember.

mornings: Joe McLaine
middays: anybody except Guy Randall Ackley
afternoons: Jeff Frank
evenings: ?
overnights: I remember when a certain jock (not to be named here) at WKAP, who often had a six-pack of beer stashed in the station's soda machine. Other overnight jocks would listen to their EBS monitors to see if he was slurring his words. Ah, the good old days!

slogans: I might be in a small minority, but I liked "The Big X" (WEEX/Easton).

Best jocks from MY era (late 60's early 70's)....

Mornings - Tom Kelly (WEEX)
Middays - Guy Randall "Earthpig" Ackley (WAEB)
Afternoons - Ok... I listened to Ingram on WABC, but Tiger Joe Maclaine was outstanding here
Evenings - Joey Mitchell (the late Jay Snyder) (WEEX)

Somewhere, you would think there would be airchecks. I spent 10 yrs on the air, but I don't have 10 seconds of tape to show for it.

a lot of old WEEX jocks are being mentioned. (Big John!) this is telling me 2 things: 1.) the median age on this board is 45+?? and 2.) collectively you don't think much of the last 20 years in LV radio...haha.

You know, you're right. 1. I'm 53. 2. After I left the business, I pretty much stopped listening to music radio. Mostly I listen to news and talk now. That pretty much precludes most of LV radio from the past 20 yrs.

I left the business in January 1980. After working at WEEX/WQQQ and WAEB/WXKW, I decided the hours and pay didn't cut it for me.

In regards to some of the names mentioned. One was Joey Mitchell. Was he on Oldies 99 and what was his cause of death? Also, does anyone know what Mick Hagerty is up to? Last I knew years ago, he owned or was running I think 95.3. I don't believe he is involved with that frequency anymore. Is he still in radio?

Jay "Joey Mitchell" Snyder died in 2000 (pretty sure) of pancreatic cancer. Very sad. He was a gentleman.

Mickey Hagerty last I knew was running/owning a station in Shamokin. That info is maybe 4-5 yrs old.

Re: Mick Hagerty-Mick passed away just this evening - May 8, 2007. He was my brother-in-law. Our family will miss him.

First off... to Mickey's family, I'm really sorry for your loss. Mick and I were close 'back in the day'. We worked together for years at WEEX, laughed and talked, and enjoyed a great working relationship. I did news for his morning show, for his midday show... and then, back in 99, he and I did the Oldies 99 Old-Timer's weekend together. Did Sunday morning for 4 hours, and it felt very "at home" to do the news for Mickey. He had an incredible sense of humor, yet was thoughtful and respectful of people.

This is a sad evening for me. Here's to you Mickey... good friend... good boss... good jock!

Bob

you forgot one guy TJ Graye..........only put in 1 year, but if he had wanted to stay, he would have been something, funny guy, just hated the place. worked in philly at the old eagle 106 at the same time....
