HAHA! April Fools!

I know, Right! It helps to copy the Energy 98 playist to create your station. Instant success.
Yeah, considering both Energy and Electric get their music from the same sources, and have an identical format, the two are bound to sound alike. Chris once said here that he used to listen to Energy 98 a lot before he launched ElectricFM, which explains the golds. I can find several CHR stations owned by different companies that have the exact same sound.

Now can we not turn this thread into a pissing contest between 2 dance stations?

Yeah, considering both Energy and Electric get their music from the same sources...

Wrong. Way wrong. We get music from about 25 different sources without downloading mp3s.

No pissing. We're bigger. He knows it. Doesn't matter.

I do notice that most dance music has female vocals. 34 of the top 50 dance tracks are female. Why don't you listen to Energy 98 for an hour and count how many songs are female vocalists, then listen to Electric FM for an hour and do the same, repeat for other dance stations. You'll find most are about the same. Pop tends to be more balanced, so a dance station that plays more pop remixes would have a better balance.

All the top selling genres are dominated by males. Rock and Hip Hop are known for their testosterone heavy lyrics.Country often is as well.Although, you find females doing well in that genre and the same goes for pop (especially the last couple of years). Most dance in the US is geared towards females. The lyrics are sometimes loopy and lack substance. If anyone has seen some SNL skits on dance music then you'll know what I'm talking about. That's not too say that I don't enjoy the likes of Kim Zozzi or Anna Grace but usually there isn't enough balance on most dance channels.

Russ said: "tries displaying his stupid google banner all over my site" -- me too! I can attest to this. That was the first time I had ever blocked an AD from google. Chris you are a nice guy personally but I think it's time for us to hold your feet to the fire.

Remove your dual listing of the *same station* twice on itunes...it's unethical and it's stepping on my toes.

a couple months back when Tony santiago was breathing down your neck about the Pulse 87 campaign. I was totally on your side!...and one random day I discovered that Tony was right -- you created a dummy website to capture people searching for pulse87 online and I also heard you kept spamming pulse's facebook group....it wasn't that you "were campaigning against pulse 87" , it was "the way you did it" that was stepping on other people's toes. You take the award for toe-stepping for 2009. I'm just sayin -- we all step back Smiley

Times have also changed at R-I.. I guess you can't say the real "BS" word on here w/o getting your post deleted.

How about just coming onto the board saying "Hey guys, what's up.. come over and check out my site Electric Car Radio" instead of acting like a 3rd party fan.. that's pretty lame.

You could have also advertised on Google to capture the Pulse 87 listeners.
And why would Chris feel the need to advertise Electric FM to a site full of people in the dance industry who already know about electricfm.com? It's like preaching to the choir.

And for the record, Chris didn't spam Electric FM on Pulse 87's Facebook page, he spammed the Energy 92.7 page the day it shut down (and ironically I was spamming Pulse 87 on that page).
I do remember seeing an ad for Electric FM on radiotime.com's listing for Party 87, now that is a very effective ad placement.

What is wrong with advertising the station? Chris was just trying to offer an alternative to Party FM for the Pulse listeners who didn't like the hip hop and who wanted new dance music. Would you rather have had those listeners abandon their interest in dance music completely?

There really is no use fighting each other, as Tony keeps saying, we have to be united if we want dance music to become more mainstream. It really looks bad to the outsider to see pissing contests like this. I'd say this thread and everything that DJ Penn posted a few weeks ago were the worst. And I'm going to call myself out too, all my past posts about bashing Party FM's hip hop didn't help us.

Let me say a few things ive been dying to say for a long time. First of all on a lighter note, Its good to see you RUSS on the board again, its been a long absence and i know you are busy with so much, but i think i speak for many people on this board when i say your presence and involvment on this board has been much missed. You have always been cool with me, and you accept and appreciate having me a fan of 1club, you still to this day are on top of things, i love the miami house and breakbeat channels the most, and i think you and others highly underestimate your own dance hits channel, cause i happen to think KJJ or sal, whichever does a good job, all your edm and the oldschool wbmx channels are great. most of you may not know this about me, but i also enjoy Aside from CHR, i like quite a bit of Country western as well... i know thats a shocker but im a midwestern contry boy at heart ya know. Anyway your a great guy, keep doing what you are doing?

Edger---- Why is it i get the feeling you dont like me anymore, is it just my imagination? i like you mike, and i have always looked up to you. IVE Always thought you were a good PD,, and i always thought of your critisism as being humourus. i dont care what most people think about me, but it would truly hurt my feelings if I found out you disliked me, but be honest,, if you dont like me,, and in fact if anyone doesnt like me, i would like to know why. i have always supported the fellow PDs and webcasters and anyone else who supports dance.

MWC - I like you. No reason not to like you. Now Manny...that's another story ;)

Well, when I advertise something, you know it's me ;D

Manny always used to PM me all the time and him and I where pretty tight,, however their was a time that Manny and I where enemies but that is so second grade and just water under the bridge now. this was before Manny Realised that mI was in fact a good person once you got to know me.

Midwest -- I don't remember ever having a fallout with you ??? I know you sent a demo to Fusion, before it was Fusion and before I was a part of it and it didn't work out and I've always felt like I've gotten the cold shoulder for it...but whatever it was, yeah it's definitely water under the bridge...speaking of water its hailing outside...gotta run!!!

I see that a post or two have been deleted so this is kind of like jumping in on a conversation without hearing the full extent of it but I do feel the need to put my 2 cents into this one. I haven't know Chris from ElectricFM for even a year now but what I do know is that he's a good guy that's willing to help people. He's offered me some invaluable advice that has help my station tremendously. He's asked for nothing in return.

As for how he handles his marketing, I'm sorry but I don't see anything wrong with it. In fact, after Party in Orlando disappeared I advised Sirius that if they were smart they'd do a media campaign in Orlando and every other town that had a format flip to try and switch those listeners over to satellite. When a station like Electric FM goes on the site of a defunct station and tells them hey, you have a choice and we're one of them, I don't see anything wrong with that. It's smart marketing. Sure, not everyone is going to agree with it but the fact is that awareness works. If they were doing it while the station was still around, then I'd have a problem with it.

I regularly see one station pretending to be a different listener each time and posting on label sites. To me, that's deceptive. It's easy to track because of the posted IP addresses.

As for multiple listings on iTunes. If they are for different bitrates then thats a valid use. If its for the same stream then it's kind of pointless.

As for the Electric FM vs Energy 98 music comparison, last week we track aprox. 370 songs (from all stations) for possible charting on the FMQB Chart. Of those records, both playlists shared 38 songs. Electric FM charted 58 songs that Energy 98 didn't play. Energy 98 charted 59 songs that Electric FM didn't play. Both played 3 of the others Power records. Both stations weren't playing 2 of the others powers at all. It doesn't appear that both stations are any closer in playlisting records then any other.

It just seems that as our internet dance community grows the bickering gets to the point of the absurd. I just saw another battle as one internet station pretty much took anothers positioning statement and then trademarked the slightly different version. I see on the Live365 directory that one station liked my description of my station so much that they took it and changed an artist or two. My suggestion is for everyone to keep it civil and respect one and all. Remember why we got into this industry, the love of music.
