Just Go

What do you all think about the new Lionel Richie/Akon song "Just Go?" I, for one (may be alone here) am VERY impressed. When I saw Akon, I thought it was going to be some sort of rap song, but it's not -- Lionel is great (as always) and it's good to see him release some new material. This song beats almost every song I've heard come to AC radio this year. Something about the sound is very calming and unique. Hope this one goes over well on AC, not really hearing it much here yet. AC is in desperate need of new material.....can't take "I'm Yours" much longer or "Love Story"....both 2 of the worst songs I've heard hit the format in a good while. Or maybe it's after hearing them 1000 times. This and the Matt Nathanson song I previously mentioned are 2 of the best I've heard in 2009 (or heck, 2008).

Thoughts?

Nice but it's nowhere on the charts. I like it, but I don't love it.

It's frustrating when there are new songs by established artists that never get a chance to be heard on the radio. I was a big fan of "World" by Five For Fighting used on the TV series "Jericho" and "This Never Happened Before" by Paul McCartney from the movie "The Lake House". Neither of these songs got airplay. I liked them which shows I'm out of step with the "mainstream" listeners.

If I want to hear new music I don't find it on the radio. Mostly YouTube, TV or iTunes.

Yeah, I totally agree about new music from established artists. It's pretty hard.

As for Just Go...yeah, it was short-lived. I'm not really hearing it anymore. Sad, because I thought it was a good song for AC. I am glad to see the Rob Thomas song "Her Diamonds" progressing so well - I bet that will hit top 3. I'm already hearing it a good bit and it's a good song from a prominent and successful artist.

"Her Diamonds" is #1 on Rick Dees' AC chart.

"Just Go" is OK. Not great, but I can tolerate it. Keep in mind that Akon does have some AC experience of sorts. He did the "woo-hoo" and "wee-hoo" on "The Sweet Escape" by Gwen Stefani.

Her Diamonds really is climbing. Like seeing Come On Get Higher rising also. Those are great AC songs and we need more like them.

And Love Story is finally drifting. I don't think I have ever disliked a song and heard it beaten to death on AC as much as that one. Never fear...I'm sure "You Belong With Me" will be #1 for months soon.

I love "You Belong With Me" and don't think I will get tired of it like I did with "Love Story". Still, it has such a young theme (nerd girl Vs cheerleader) that I'm surprised the AC demo (or Country) can relate to it that much. It seems perfect for CHR/Pop.

I can see why "Just Go" didn't hit it too big. Not a bad song, it was easy to listen to. But there was something too formula about it. It was trying too hard to make Lionel Richie sound contemporary.
