Was with a friend at Best Buy, and decided to bite the bullet and get XM since the Roady2 was at 50 bucks. Got everything set up, and aside from the gripe about the sub-FM sound quality, I'm overall happy with the service. Now if they'ed just create a channel that sounds like the "True Oldies Channel", I'll really be happy...

Soul Street is my favorite channel with Deep Tracks second. Are you using FM modulation to get the sound through your stereo? I bought an XM ready Sony stereo with an XM tuner plugged directly into the aux on the back of the stereo. My sound is superior to FM.

Keep in mind, if you are used to hearing loud overly processed, pumped up sound, this is not what Sat Rad is about; no heavy compression and no boosting the highs and lows way out of proportion to the midrange. The only terrestrials that compare favorably with Sat Rad audio are the NPRs, the classicals, and some traditional jazz stations.<P ID="signature">______________

Welcome to the "XM NATION" I think you're right about the true oldies.
IF they would blend the 50's AND 60's with rock,pop and soul into one channel, then that
would be the perfect oldies channel(soul street is also my fav.).
But just keep surfing among the channels,you'll find songs you haven't
heard in years..........even some you've never even heard of...enjoy!

I am actually quite impressed with the FM audio quality. It works better than I expected.
 
I have found that I get better over all sound and stereo seperation, if I use the cassette adapter instead of the FM modulator. The Roady2 should have come with one. If not, it's an inexspensive trade-up.

It came with it - but my cr radio doesnt have a cassette deck...<P ID="signature">______________

The only reason the sound quality is poor for you is because you're using the FM modulator.

It's well known that the Roady has miserable sound quality and I'm amazed that XM is sticking with them.

Get a "real" XM radio such as the XMSkybox or a XM-Ready car stereo and the sound quality will be MUCH better than ANY FM station.

What about the SkyFi & MyFi radio's?

Even with the radio plugged directly into my stereo, the digital artifacts still come through.

I am a bit disappointed with XM, I enjoy adult standards and Timeless classics. You can catch a few of these songs if you surf 50 and 60's channel's. With standard formats falling by the way side around the country, I would think a station dedicated to this format similar to WW1, ABC Stardust and Music of your life would have a dedicated channel on XM. Its the only music genre left off thier programming. Any insight here?

Or the ultimate---the Polk XM Reference Tuner.

Don't the 40s channel and Frank's Place pretty much cover this area? Which artists are you looking for?

I think that the beauty of satellite radio is that it doesn't try to have something for everybody, but very little for anybody, on one channel. Unlike terrestrial radio, satellite narrows its formats. As you said, the music is there...........you just have to know where to look.
