Just how many Ocean County FMs does NJN Radio need?

CURRENTLY NJN Radio operates 89.9 WNJM, a Class A FM station in Manahawkin.

NJN has a CONSTRUCTION PERMIT for a translator on 102.3 in Lakewood.

NJN also has APPLICATIONS for:
A translator on 92.1 in Toms River
A translator on 103.9 in Point Pleasant

Does Ocean County really need FOUR NJN stations?

89.7 WNJN from Atlantic City and WNJT from Trenton also reach substantial parts of the county as well!

Federal funding is based on the population reached by the 60 dBu contour.
______________

Will any of the signals from these stations overlap?

If it takes one full powered station and three translators to reach the entire county, then yes it does.

Radio waves don't match the lines we draw on maps for geographic divisions. If NJN wants to attempt to cover New Jersey (novel idea there) then the best way to do it is put translators in the populated areas that can't receive their programming.

In their primary coverage area? You can live and die by your coverage maps, but try taking real world listening into account. Can you hear WNJT or WNJN on a regular radio in an office building in Toms River, Point Pleasant, or Lakewood?
______________

The entire concept of NJN Radio is an example of how a bureaucracy runs away with its own ideas. NJN TV is taxpayer subsidized. The mission was to provide TV service in an underserved state. It did that job well. Where did the radio side come into play? Why? This side of NJN isn't necessary. The State Legislature ought to be investigating this unnecessary use of taxpayer's money.

Why is it unnecessary ? I listen to it, it's a good service.
It's low budget, a couple of low power stations and a few
employees. They get pretty good ratings, so someone is
listening. They are also the main station for EAS in
the State of New Jersey - since their network covers
almost the entire state between radio and TV. Since the
"taxpayers" don't fund it entirely, I'm also a "member"
of NJN Radio.

Chances are that the 102.3 translator will Not get built in lakewood.
Even though it would Be directional. radio waves do not stay within the lines drawn by some Engineer on paper...
If this translator was built It would destroy the local coverage that WUPC-Lp
has in lakewood. its 11 miles between the 2 stations.. thats like saying
OK lets put up a 38 watt translator in Jersey City On 101.1FM
it just wont work without total interference..

In your own words"taking real world listening into account".
drive through lakewood and see how strong WUPC Covers lakewood.
Its funny.. the FCC would not License a 100 watt LPFM at 60 feet in lakewood
but allows a 38 watt translator at over 100 feet in lakewood..
If It was any other group than NJN My bet says they(FCC) would not have approved it.
If it does indeed go on the air and interferes with WUPC. It will get interesting. Yes it would be Outside of the 60db Im sure. but you will have alot of upset spanish speaking People.. after all Lakewood is mostly Spanish and hewbrew speaking community. they have the jewish LPFM... and WUPC serves the spanish. last thing they Need is NPR.. what a waste. of tax dollars in that community.

After all WNJN is killing the coverage of WYGG on 88.1 in Asbury Park
I have plans that will resolve that.. Anyone want to Help with a fund raiser?
I am in the middle of rebuilding the WYGG studios and its looking better than it was.
