You forgot the truly thankless jobs: Traffic and Continuity

A small office of analytical women that keep 99% of the spots running correctly and are abused severely for the 1% that run wrong.

Here you go:

SVPP - Senior Vice President of Programming: The white guy that takes the credit for stations that are doing well for a broadcast company and makes predictions of the "next hot format" to try.

PD - Program Director: Usually a white guy that takes the blame for a station or group not doing well in the Arbitron ratings.

MD - Music Director: the person blamed and fired for the payola that the SVPP and PD are taking from the record companies to play the stinker songs.

RVP - Regional Vice President: The person (usually a white guy) that takes credit and bonuses for the stations that are making money in a cluster of stations in one region.

MM - Market Manager: The person that takes monthly beatings for the stations that are not making money including boring formats that the SVPP forces on the local PD that can't attract an audience with even free cash and "51 minutes of music" or "the best music of yesterday, today and tomorrow."

DOS - Director of Sales: The person that takes weekly beatings from the MM for stations that are not making enough money to get the MM a bonus.

GSM - General Sales Manager: The person that takes daily beatings from the DOS for the stations not making enough money to get the DOS a bonus.

AE - Account Executive: The Account Executive that makes big commision off all those commercials you hear. The successful ones ignore all of the above and stay out of the office unless they have an order to place or need to come in and collect a check.

Talent - Formerly critical to a successful radio, now frequently missing or eliminated through voicetracking or automation.

Liner-card -The dry, useless positioning statements that PDs force their remaining talent to read. Can sometimes be customized to collect more payola or free drinks and meals at the PD's favorite restaurant/pub. You know them as that bit of chatter right before seven minutes of commercials and inacurrate traffic that serves as your cue to change stations asap.

All clear nubey?

Can't we all just agree to call it Mega? It just feels wrong to call it KLOL anymore. :'(

You are quite correct. KLOL died when they started their current format. The call letters should have been changed then. We should have a thread with suggested calls for this abomination.

The powers that be at Clear Channel didn't want the KLOL call letters to be available in Houston (or anywhere else for that matter) so that no other station could pick them up and jumpstart a rock station. Rock 103.7 got as close as they could with KIOL...but a lot of good that did them now that they are just another classic rock station. I agree that referring to MEGA as KLOL is a travesty. Let's put those legendary calls to bed and support this group that claims to be Latino and Proud while Walton and Johnson on the "sister station" KPRC are calling for the mass deportation of illegal Mexican immigrants. How do you suppose they act when they pass each other in the hallway at CC Central?

What everybody else says is that there are going to be more conversions from Preciosa to Mega, particularly in soon-to-be PPM market. In fact, an engineer on rec.ba.broadcast, the San Francsico radio group, says that "Preciosa is not long for the world" and points to changes in plans for the Preciosa studio complex in San Jose.

I know who Jose Santos is... just ask him. He started with me as a weekend jock on KHJ in Los Angeles 14 years and has worked with me at WOJO, KISF & KQMR, KSCA and KLVE.

so technicaly you were wrong about Omar taking over in Houston David E... im guessing you also know why Jose was let go from his Pd title in LA!

Mr. Santos resigned, and immediately added about 8 consulting clients.

The real question is why KEGL is down 47% in billing for 2007 over 2006. That explains why the talk is of a new Mega in Dallas.

Actualy he was forced to resign from his pd post after he was involved in some improper conduct with one of his employes. Anyways yeah the new mega project wont be called mega mr David E you should be on top of this its gona be a nice change to Houston and other major Markets!

Naughty boy, you are. You should know better than posting unsubstantiated accusations on a mesage board.

Whatever it is called, it is the Mega format, because that is where CCU is getting some traction and billings. This format is reported to be replacing a number of Preciosa's because of the billings issues such as the near-50% drop in billings in Dallas. If you consider that the studio project in San Jose is halted, you have to know something is up.

Rock will proving to be more valuable in Houston that another latin music station.
My prediction: Another rock format in market by New Years.
