Just realized I've had my Sangean PR-D5 for 10 years!

And it was the start of many years of interesting catches and YouTube videos.

It's still as good as the day I got it and the tuning knob is as good as new.

This was the first video I did with my PR-D5 where I made a trip all the way across the state of Florida to see if any New York AM stations could be heard in the daytime.

Someone who used to post here had said that he could hear a couple of the NYC stations day and night when he lived in Daytona Beach, so that's why I chose that location.

Much to my surprise, I heard WZAB from the Miami area on 880 with an audible signal which was not possible according to the Radio Locator map because it was well beyond the 'fringe'.

So I nulled WZAB facing the receiver in the direction of New York and heard a co-frequency fluttering sound which I thought maybe was because of WCBS.

The Cuban on 880 was barely audible in Tampa in the daytime, so I didn't think the signal could make it up the spine of the state.

Anyway, my first video with my then new PR-D5. Can't believe it's been 10 years.

Hya Gar! Long time no dialogue!

I have two of those barbershop Zenith specials here; six tubes each. One of them works, somewhat, if you kick it long enough, and at the right angle. I know very little about electronix, but I've screwed around long enough with this older working Zenith to be proud of myself.

I bought it back at an apple-cider / flea market across the river from Springfield Massachusetts for $15 -- in 1973.
On it one night, I could hear bass riffs on Step Into Christmas, off CKLW, that I couldn't detect off the flippin STUDIO speakers of our WHVY.

Always preferred the tube radios, even into my 'modern' DX career. I especially like the ones where a tube or two will turn blue. Nice nighttime ambience.

Continued 73's with your PR-D5 !

I still remember our color TV in the den when I was little had tubes and we would have to wait for it to 'warm up' each time it was turned on.

And if something went wrong with the TV, my dad would take the tubes out and take them to the 'tube tester' they used to have in drug stores back then.

I have had mine about 5 years. I listen to the AM band on it nightly. Local FM now and then. Listened to more local FM when one of the rock stations was still on the air... Since it flipped, it's been AM only.

Congrats on your decade with the PR-D5, Gar. Very glad to hear it's still working like new for you. I've always enjoyed reading about your AM DX catches and watching the videos.
