Just saw this on Sean Ross blog - thoughts?

A rather inspired, chest pounding diatribe from a person who helped elimate jobs by bringing "Channel Casting" to Long Island and who wanted to sell his stations to a Connecticut company.

Funny guy that John, I can remember when the Bone was playing rock, a few years back....SOME of the jocks sounded like they were high school kids, and they were, so sure the staff was full and they picked up on the phone but they were not up to par with the rest of the Island stations.....SOME of them, not all, they did have a few people who were fantastic!

Oh yes, defending local radio. By selling out your flagship station to one of those same "evil companies" that benefitted by deregulation in 1996, and by LMA'ing the remnants of your flagship station to another one of those companies, ESPN. Dumping the airstaff for the Channelcasting experiment. Changing formats constantly. And since when does 98.5/96.9 cover *all* of Long Island?

I don't know John personally, but I have to give him kudos. Listen, everyone makes mistakes and I'm sure John would tell you that Channelcasting was his. But it sounds as though he's on the path of something big. After reading his piece, he's got that company headed in the right direction. And other people are taking notice. When was the last time your idea was published. John Caracciolo doesn't have to hide behind by an anonymous name "MrsN"

I agree, met him a few times and I know the guy loves radio and loves the business of radio. Tell me who never made a mistake, let me list a few:
Island 94.3, The Beat, Getting rid of Bob Buchman, Jack, Z100 going modern rock, NEW going modern rock, the underground network, WWPR, Country 94.3, The Islanders on MJC, HLI playing Billy Joel, I can go on and on.
The one thing on this board we all agree on is radio needs to be run by radio guys, lets hope it works. He does finally have a good partner in Vic Latino. Seems like jeb is running the LI press.

RadioLI and Radiodaze, you guys go and work for him, I wish you luck... ;D

I find it interesting that he didn't mention anything about his other radio station. The no-longer World Famous WLIR, once known to the tri-state area for its innovations and unique playlist, is in ruins. And now it's left to simulcasting ESPN to the fish in the Great South Bay.

Another interesting tidbitwas the Long Island Press article about Keep It On Long Island... basically calling out stations that are not locally owned. Of course, of the four not called out, three were TMO/JVC/Jared whatever you wanna call them.

Funny. To me there seems to be more local programming on a B-103 or even WBLI than 107.1.... It's nice to keep it on LI, but how many people do they actually employ?

Please, don't bring NYC into this. ;)

...or "radioli." Right?

RadioLi, this is not an attack on you, at least from my stand point, but since you think that there isnt to much happening talent wise here on the island and you brought up a few names, a few of which worked for John C.....who do you think is good? Are you on the air anywhere? Again not an attack on you.....just want to listen.....

I would like to get my two cents in here. Jon Daniels, Drew kennon, Donna Vaughn, Vic Latino, are all good. I know Jon, and Vic work with John C. I also like Nikki on Party at nights, think she does a great job for the station and the demo.

Jon Daniels? You're kidding right? He sounds like his buys his voice in a aerosol can everyday. The only thing worse is his programming

Drew Kenyon? Where is he on the air? I havent heard him since WLIR.....

There is more to a good jock than just a deep voice. There is execution, delivery and overall style and community and station involvement. Jon is activly involved in station promotions and overall vision of the product. He is also a great teacher. So yes, he is a good jock, or I should say "radio person".
I hear Drew on tons of spots on many LI stations, he has great delivery and a very smooth style. I also want to add Bill Edwards to my list of good LI radio guys.

My "Good" list would include: Roger Luce, Al Levine, Vic Latino,
Steve Harper (BLI Days), Bob Buchmann, Nikki, Donna Donna, The Wiseman, Jodi Vale, Scott Miller, Mark Daniels and Jim minus Kim on KJY. All offer personality entertainment, while giving me the information that I need.
My "Bad" list includes (no special order) Jon Daniels who sounds like a top 40 jock wannabe who has sucked some helium, Phathead - often tells a story that goes nowhere and seems that the only one who laughs at the punchline is him. Tim Clark is the same. Rob Rush - needs to add some inflection to his voice. Sounds like he doesn't want to be there.

Aha ha ha ha ha John C....Ha ha ha....I think I just soiled myself I am laughing so hard. Good thing I wear these new thong style depends. This has got to be one of the funniest things that I have ever heard! I really can't stop laughing. John C is if not for anything else very entertaining. I love that guy!

As for the comments on Long Island air talent, come on lets show a little class here, unless you are going to go on record and state who you really are, keep your opinions to yourselves. This anonymous posting is for pus*ies! Let's show that we have a set and if we post about "on air talent" or lack there of, don't be a coward and hide behind some fake screen name, "man/woman up" and put it out there.

This reminds me...I was at a recent fundraiser and ran into a Sales Manager that said some of the people that were beneath me at a station that I used to work for, accused me of being a person that posted some pretty hateful stuff anonymously on this site. Truth be told, I have always posted as me. I am not scared of putting it out there even when I was on the air. I never have been scared. Scared is the coward that accused me and will not confront me to my face, then tell everyone that we used to work with, they believe its me. I would name those people here , but why give them the press. I mean after all here I am laughing at the Man...The Legend John C. That alone is proof that I don't hide behind some fake screen name. So either identify yourself when being critical or shut your sh*t spewing mouths. You have some hard working people that show up every day to a disintegrating advertising nightmare, the last thing they need is to see a posting on a website from a person that is hiding behind a screen name telling them how much they suck.

All The Best,

Your Pal Eric
