Just watched a "Syfy" promo about 2 hours ago

Looks like SciFi channel is serious about this blunder, they had a promo this morning with the new logo and 7/7/09 as the doomsday date.

On the bright side, they have multiple shows that I'm looking forward to: Eureka, Warehouse 13, Sanctuary, and Stargate Universe.

Unfortunately, based on what I've seen of their July schedule, their programming strategy isn't changing one bit. To whit:

1) ECW.

2) The second day under than new name will be an all-day Ghost Hunters International marathon.

3) Eureka and Warehouse 13 would be a fantastic two-hour programming block, but Eureka's moving to Friday nights, stuffed between Star Trek: TNG repeats and second-run airings of Primeval. (The old "Friday night death slot" argument doesn't apply with this network, I think.)

4) Speaking of Eureka, the upcoming "season 3.5" really should be called season 4. Sci-Fi may have ordered 21 episodes, but it's been almost a year since the first eight episodes of season 3 ended, and it was only that much because of the writers strike. Calling these 13 new episodes "season 3" is as much disservice as the seven-month gap in the middle of the SG-1 and SGA seasons a few years ago.

5) Technically it's before the switchover to the new branding, but you'd think they'd find something more appropriate for July 4th than a two-day Twilight Zone marathon. But I guess a fifty-year-old black-and-white TV series is as American as apple pie.

6) Monster movies on weekends. Need I say more?

7) ECW. Because it bears repeating.

I am just surprised that the New SyFy doesn't add Non Science Fiction/ Horror/ Fantasy Shows To Its Schedule Like Adding Minor League Sports, Vintage TV Reruns like GILLIGAN'S ISLAND and THE HONEYMOONERS or even expand INFOMERCIALS so they can compete with ION? LOL!

Agreed. I think that argument applies only to broadcast networks. Generally speaking, it seems that cable performs better when overall viewing levels are lower. Two of cable's biggest hits - Monk and Psych on USA - have always aired first-run episodes on Friday nights.

Although I'm a wrestling fan here, even I agree that ECW doesn't belong on Sci-Fi. OK...maybe some of it is FI-ction, but...

I am not surprised.... Almost everything today is garbage, this change was stupid...

Putting ECW on basically cause they have NOTHING ELSE TO AIR!! (I guess its better than 'REALITY' crap)

Why do people care so much about a namEEERRR spell change. It's all about the content isn't it?

It's a goofy-looking name change. (Not goofy-sounding, since it's pronounced the same.) That, and someone needed something to talk about on the national TV board ;D

And to those who complain about 'Syfy' abandoning it's science-fiction roots, I'd ask: When was it ever that pure to begin with? They've had everything from straight up horror programming to dramatic movies and shows with slight fantasy/sci-fi elements in them (Lost). I don't think they're going to make Syfy into 'USA 2' or anything, but the channel would have been deader than CBS EyeOnPeople if it relied on the Star Trek/Star Wars crowd.

Yes, It's goofy... until you see it about 4 dozen times hearing their announcer pronouncing it normally... then it actually is starting to grow on me... which that "Imagine Greater" catchphrase is definitely NOT doing. It's just as generic as "we know drama" and "characters welcome" and by itself does not give me the confidence that you have that it won't turn into a "USA 2". What DOES give me some of that confidence is the shows that it is promoting to kick off the campaign -- Warehouse 13, Eureka, SGU, Caprica, etc.

That being said, I found Warehouse 13 to be an absolute ripoff of Noah Wyle's Librarian TNT TV-movie franchise. And in the season premiere of Eureka, I felt they dopped that ball by not keeping the robot sheriff and made Carter a Homeland Security agent posted in Eureka.

radiowayne does not watch syfy because it is spelled wrong. radiowayne would watch scifi. radiowayne does not patronize any product that is grammatically incorrect.

But, then again, he could be wrong.

I just finished watching SYFY? Sorry word check that's how it's spelled. They had a movie about a giant worm thingy eating marines. Seems like the same Ol' Sci eeerrr SYFY to me. :D

HOLD ON! Now Bruce Boxlightner is fighting a skeleton in the middle of the desert dressed in Indian gear. YEP it's still same ol Sci eeerrrah SYFY.
