Just When You Thought That We Would Never See "AMC" & "OLTL" Again...

Re: Just When You Thought That We Would Never See "AMC" & "OLTL" Again...

So what network would air them? Or will they be restricted to the Internet like Larry King? ::)

Re: Just When You Thought That We Would Never See "AMC" & "OLTL" Again...

Making them online-only shows isn't the craziest idea if my sister is any indication: She works both dayside and night shifts in a hospital, and often catches up with The Young and the Restless through CBS.com.

Would Prospect Park keep the five-episodes-a-week schedule, though? I could see them whittling that down to three or even two per week. Writers could probably push the envelope a little more without broadcast TV demands.

It'd have been neat to see Guiding Light get revived, just so it'd 'complete the cycle' of radio, TV, and web production.

Re: Just When You Thought That We Would Never See "AMC" & "OLTL" Again...

If this truly takes off, I can see the networks (And other online venues) originating series shows online which could then (If they turn out to be HITS) parlay themselves into mainstream media shows

You know, sort of like some now-current NFL players have done with their careers by starting out in the Arena League

A bunch of online-turned-mainstream media show hits (Along with the stuff that networks like TruTV produce) could finally spell DEATH to the crap that passes as so-called Reality TV (Hey we can at least HOPE, right? :D )

Thoughts? Tar? Feathers? *Gulp*

Cheers & 73 :D

"Quarterlife" set that theory back at least a decade.

Re: Just When You Thought That We Would Never See "AMC" & "OLTL" Again...

I'll believe that "All My Children" and "One Life To Live" are revived when I actually see new episodes!

:D

(By the way, Prospect Park, if they're serious, should offer the shows in first-run syndication to local TV stations. I'm sure there are some general managers and program managers at local TV stations with syndicated daytime lineups that aren't doing so well who would welcome the chance to air the new versions of "All My Children" and "One Life To Live")

Re: Just When You Thought That We Would Never See "AMC" & "OLTL" Again...

I'm not so sure if Prospect Park will go the syndication route with "All My Children" and One Life To Live," but if it comes to a eleventh hour thing in which stations miss out on nabbing "Queen Latifah," lose "Ellen" to other stations or can't find the perfect replacement for "Anderson Live" then making the soaps available to syndication would be an alternative. Its their call.

Re: Just When You Thought That We Would Never See "AMC" & "OLTL" Again...

Deadline and Daytime Confidential have more info:

- Plan is to film in Stamford, CT to take advantage of tax breaks. This wouldn't affect OLTL too much, since it was based on NY. However, AMC had moved its taping to Los Angeles at the end.

- Both shows will be 30 minutes in length; both shows had been 1 hour since the 1970s.

- The shows will air 4 episodes per week, with a Friday recap show.

- Plan is to air new episodes for 42 weeks out of the year, to produce 168 half hours per year.

- Though unannounced, the hope is to have a cable outlet in addition to the online outlet Prospect Park has planned. However, at this point, there has been no announcement of a secondary outlet for either program.

ABC has agreed to extend the license agreement with Prospect Park until February; PP has until the end of the Feb to begin production, or they lose the license and the rights revert back to ABC.

One wrinkle to this will be the impact on General Hospital. Several characters moved over from OLTL to General Hospital this year; according to several sources, Prospect Park could ask for those characters back at any time.

While PP seems further along this go round - they apparently have agreements with SAG-AFTRA, DGA, and plans to use non-union writers, it still seems like a huge task to get everything up and running by the end of February. Some fans are speculating that this is a ploy to get money from ABC, given there have been rumors of interest in both properties within ABC recently.

It would have been more prudent had ABC simply held onto "One Life to Live" and "All My Children", and simply trimmed them back to 30 minute shows that would air 4 days a week.

Oh well......hindsight is always 20/20....oh...wait....that's another show altogether ;D

Re: Just When You Thought That We Would Never See "AMC" & "OLTL" Again...

^I wonder how ABC would have scheduled the programs if they had followed your idea of broadcasting them four days per calendar week?

The intention would be for there to be 4 original shows per week. Fridays would be a "wrap-up" show, consisting of clips from the Monday thru Thursday shows....to get viewers caught up if they missed any of the action during the week.

You might think of Fridays as a "Cliff's Notes" version of the shows themselves.
