I will get a life. And then I'll marry the Feed Store Queen and become a second rate sidekick. My life will then be complete save for a few random postings on an internet forum.

[EDIT], my daddy owned the feed store!

My favorite story of all time is happens to be the truth and it starts with the question .. how did YOU get into radio?

The answer....I was I playing music in Gatlinburg and also going to UT when I felt it was so time to get married. Because my DADDY felt I should get a real job he told me to apply at the local radio station. I kinda thought he was nuts, I had never listened PEOPLE on the radio just the music and knew little to nothing about what the inside of a station even looked like. A bud of mine was a weather anchor on a local Kvle TV station and also the news director at WKGN, so I asked for his advice. He said, you work in an air conditioned room, never lift a thing heavier than a pencil or a pint and get paid to read wire copy! WOW...DEAL ME IN! I asked him when I could start at KGN and he said I had to find a job at a small station and learn the ropes. NO PROBLEM...racing home to my DADDY (it is a southern thing) I said I would call the local station and he said to do it!

I called them and was hired ON THE SPOT! To make a long story even longer it had nothing to do with me being able to talk (they didn't even ask me to read into the can) but it did have everything to do with DADDY calling the owner first. See my DADDY was the longest running advertiser on the station..bought a block of time every morning from 5 45 till 7 SIX DAYS A WEEK and a schedule on top of that. DADDY told the owner to hire me and guess what he did!

GOD do I love that story!

Now [EDIT], as for dating a gal who owned a feed store...sorry not me..but I did marry one who was on tenure with the Knox County School System and brother that sure did come in handy when I got fired on a semi regular basis!

OK [EDIT], what is your >>THIS HOW I GOT STARTED IN RADIO story? Or are you just a listener like me now?

[EDIT-disruption]

WalMart was a private company when dad wanted me to follow in his footsteps, and I couldn't see a big future in restocking the shelves and doing inventory overnight. The owner of the local station needed somebody who could just show up and run the preacher shows on Sunday mornings so he could sleep a little and go to church. It didn't take long to get my third class license, but I still had to tell my folks the new job involved playing piano in a whorehouse so they wouldn't be embarrassed. They never quite understood why the ladies needed a piano player on Sunday mornings, so they figured it was for vespers. Then I bought Citadel stock and wound up having to work my declining years at WalMart. The end.
