Why is it that when "some" Jock's voice track... they ask their listeners to call in request when the phone line is busied out??? Listeners know that the line can't always be busy. Case in point, I heard Randy Larson doing the Saturday Night dance mix on 96.5 in CR. People in the Industry know that he Voice Tracks from Des Moines. This Saturday Night program used to caller intense when Disco Don did it and a few other Jock's did it live. So now Randy Larson ask for request to the request line and gives out the number, only to have his listeners get a busy signal all night. Why would you ask your listeners to call, when all there going to get is a busy signal and get frustrated???

Simple. The're tryinng to create the illusion that it's a popular live show and the phones are just "too busy to get through!"

They think their listeners are too stupid to realize the station is auto-jocked and the phone is off-the-hook. Problem is, the listeners are *not* that stupid. This is why radio listenership continues to drop each year.

MN Maniac,

Do not speak of which you have no knowledge. First of all, there a PLENTY of people who listen to the radio who have no friggin clue what "voicetracking" is or what it does. Ask any DJ who is on live during the week and VT's the weekend if he/she has ever had said to them "I heard you on this weekend...don't you ever get a day off?" - from a listener. I would guess it's close to 100%.

Your comment about "this is why radio listenership continues to drop...." is one of the most moronic things to be posted on this board - EVER. Voicetracking an overnight or weekend shift, while it keeps the on air person from talking to the listener, is NOT the reason for declining listeners. Try THE INTERNET, MUSIC DOWNLOADS, POD CASTING, and SATELLITE RADIO as four of the BIGGEST reasons for listener decline.

Tell ya what MN Maniac...go back to your "radio/tradio" show, make some hot cocoa, and try to only comment on things that you have a shred of knowledge about. This board already has one misinformed poster....and his name is supersoul. We don't need two.

Hey Stick,

I enjoyed reading some old postings dating wayyyyy back.
I am curious what your experience is in the 'biz...can you share anything comfortably ? Are you currently media employed?
I mean you no harm, in fact you once had my back in a discussion long ago.
I want to understand where everyone is coming from in their postings...some are obvious , some are not.
Have a great day Stick.

Some listeners ask if jocks "ever get a day off" because they know damn well that since slavery was abolished EVERYone gets a day off. Few are fooled by the "magic" that allows jocks to VT 6 hour shifts day after day-sometimes on multiple stations -without any real time references.

Stickman may be the only one.

Furthermore Stick....I hate to burst your ego but Radio has lost listeners to the afformentioned entertainment services for over 10 straight years because RADIO stopped being relevant. Listeners HATE 6 min stopsets. They DO NOT RESPOND to meaningless sales driven promotions. They understand that they can get better music elsewhere. They don't trust radio because radio lies to them and routinely proves that it has very little credibility. Don't even start me on the asinine research that drives the industry. And Voicetracking is definately part of the rigormortis setting in.

Hey Will,

Let me say that I probably have had more experience in the radio industry than a majority of those who post on here. Whether or not I am "media employed" is irrelevant to my postings. It's like a person who has coached football or played football making comments about football. Unless you are doing it or have done it, you shouldn't really speak. And as far as "where I am coming from"...I basically tell is like it is. The posters on this board fall into two categories:

1. "The Strokers" - These are the posters like [EDIT]who try to be everyone's friend on here, but when you see them out in public they bad mouth half the industry in town. These posters also WISH they had a better gig than they actually have...and that is why they want to be everyone's friend and have no problem using their "real" names to praise and smooch hiney. While these people sicken me with their hypocrisy and lack of motivation. They'd rather stroke their way to the top than work for it.

2. "The Grizzled Bitter" - These are the posters that work in radio and have for a while, but they'll complain, whine and moan about the industry every chance they get. ([EDIT]). The problem I have with these people is that they seem to completely HATE radio, but continue to work in the industry ([EDIT]). My feelings have always been...if what you are doing doesn't make you happy....why do it? Quit bitchin, suck it up, and switch jobs. If you don't, don't complain.

I'm glad I "had your back" a while back. Honestly, I mean no one no harm on these boards. I tell it like it is. Some can handle it...and some can't.

First of all, thanks for proving my point in my last post Five Pot...you made me look like a genius (which isn't tough).

Second of all, there have been months where I, and I would be willing to bet a majority of those on this board, have worked 15-20 days straight. It comes from working small market radio. So your "slavery" comment was just plain idiotic. Whether it's live in studio, at live remote, or personal appearance, everyone has strung together two or three weeks without a day off. If not, you must be in radio sales.

Third, the people that say "do you ever get a day off because I hear you every day" are the same clueless people who think that an on air personality works only the hours they are on the air. They are the same people who say "it must be nice getting to work at 10am and being done by 2pm!"

Lastly, your comments on how radio "stopped being relevant", "listeners can get their music elsewhere" are EXACTLY WHAT I WAS SAYING. [EDIT]. Oh yeah...and look at my definition of "Grizzled Bitter". [EDIT]

Thanks and God Bless!

Dear Stick,

My job is GREAT and the people I work with are fantastic but that doesn't mean that the industry isn't on a hot rail to hell.

Incidently....you were so busy stroking your own ego that you missed at least one definition of those people that post here.....the "Self important ego maniacs who proclaim their genius so others may not notice how pathetic they really are"

It's YOUR category Stick. REAL genius' do NOT have to tell people how smart they are. Please remove your head from your rectal cavity and try not to further embarrass yourself.

Love,

5 POT

It's the people who are too ashamed of what they do and their place in this world that can't handle someone who is better than they are. I'm used to others and their criticisms of me and my brilliance. You're nothing more than nothing less.

Hey Stick,

I think the edits cut out names of people you feel weren't good examples of how radio people should be.....

How about keeping it positive and give insight of whom you think is a good example of an on air person with their head on staright......past or present.
That will shed some light on your views (with your experience) without hurting anyone's feelings and surpise our friendly editor with some positive stuff.
If you do not mind of course...thanks.

Hey Will2, this is the PERFECT example of how many things get edited on this board! Before you start attacking....ask Stickman about Supersoul. Since you trust him (and so do I) you will believe that Supersoul is a bad seed and I didn't say anything out of line to get edited.
Peace Bro.
