Just wondering

I would like to ask this question in a nice and mature way without getting too dramatic. Am I the only one who thinks this? Please let me know. I have long been a fan of DSC, but it seems like every time I listen I have to turn it off after a while because sidekick Chris Boyer blurts out something that is so embarrassingly off topic or surreal, that you cringe in embarrassment and have to change the station. Dave, you do acknowledge that this guy's comments are indecipherable and have nothing to do with what you are talking about at the time, but come on, man. His non sequiturs always derail the flow of the show and through you guys off rhythm. You try to make jokes about how lame his comments are, but I hate to say, this guy is the idiot savant without the savant. You obviously don't do any prep with him to anticipate or mitigate or prevent any of the floaters-in-the-punchbowl he serves up. In my opinion you really need to address it, because it's like watching a recurring accident. And in the words of Billy Crystal on the Stern show, "It's not fun, it's not funny." Just thought I'd through this out in a constructive way. Please speak out if you agree or disagree. I do this because DSC is one of the few morning shows he have of value.

Three days later..am I off base full of crap or does everyone agree that this anchor is pulling this show down? Please set me straight. I only have the interests on DSC and quality radio in mind.

Chris has moments of brilliance followed by weeks of "clang". Monday he had a great one about Shelly cooking steak -- genius. Then clanged it up because of trying to wrap a story together that didn't connect.

Personally I cannot listen to the DSC, but it's not because of Boyer. It's the entire zeitgeist of the show. I find myself disgusted, turned off or just plain grossed out every time I turn them on.

I half to agree with you on Boyer. He does have some good moments,But the derails are out of hand at times. His babbling on about god knows what throws a """ WTF" Was that ?I love Dave Shelly and Chainsaw,But yes Boyer is a pain in my A..! I sometimes yell at the radio telling Boyer to Shut up!!

I agree with Doc. It was a funny show a looong time ago. Boyer? ya and Shelly's incessant giggling and the prehistoric bits just drive me nuts. Dave now sounds like a bitter, crotchety old man. I used to "love their show." Thank goodness for other types of media without commercials and old, worn bits. Sad.

I miss the DSC scripted bits, they were amazing! I miss Skeeter, Bromo, Wayne, and of course Mrs. Schutte. Those bits took alot of time to write and voice. The show has morphed more into Dave and company talking about anything that they see or hear. Thank God I'm conservative so I agree with him 99% of the time. Whether you hate the show or love it, or hate Chris Boyer, it is still the best morning show in the country.

DSC I LOVE YOUR SHOW!

i don't think anyone hates Chris Boyer. I think we all just shake our heads and wonder how such a t--d in the punchbowl can be allowed to bring down this once great radio show. He absolutely is tanking this once great infallible enterprise. He regularly throws off the momentum of the show for his weak, meaningless non sequiturs. And fat lazy Dave is letting him get away with it. This is unhealthy and unnatural.

Boyer's performance in the past was always balanced by Bromo. If either one said anything that clanged off my noggin, within 4 minutes the other would offer up something that made the first look like sheer genius. Without both together, you just have one cylinder that doesn't consistantly fire. Not that this is bad, because it is fodder for discussion. Its just a "cringeable' moment on radio.

Dave likes to talk about how rich he is. This is annoying, but what's worse, is that this whole show is weak, fat and lazy. Remember when Rich Bera was on board on producer? they did all sorts of remotes and special events like the April Fool's shuttle landing. Now these people just show up every day and throw out weak bits. No prep, no special events. Just weak bits about their fat and lazy lifestyle.

No, "we all don't."

Just a friendly reminder that "Just Wondering" isn't a good title for a new topic. "Just Wondering" covers just about anything you may want to talk about. The whole idea of putting a title on a new post is to tell us what it's about, so we can choose to click or not click it. "Just Wondering About DSC Show" or "Jack-FM Morning Show" might be better titles.

Paragraphs are also helpful when writing a post. They break up a long post. Thanks.

Wow... You're giving Rich Berra credit for the Space Shuttle stunt?

Sorry Gregg, didn't know I had to do the right thing according to the blog etiquette nanny. I stand corrected. I beg forgiveness.

Anyway, whether Rich Berra (sp?) conceived the April fools stunt or not, all I am saying is the Berra years were the years when DSC was bigger than life. They don't make DVD's or CDs any more. They don't do remotes. Now its just these veteran, once-legendary DJ's who pretty much phone it in, using the same old bits, no remotes and no great spectacles or causes. They talk about the TV shows they watch and the food they eat. And then there's Chris Boyer, who actually brings the show down with his numerous mind-fart trainwrecks.

If any of you live in San Diego (radio darn I know does...everyone else, not so sure) please tell me if I am right or wrong here. Again, this is the state of DSC at this current time. Not when you lived here in 1994.

Gregg's posts are consistently interesting. I believe he was simply offering advice, not mean-spirited criticism. A well defined title and the proper use of paragraphs would, indeed, have made this a better thread!
