What the hell does "local" broadcaster Bill Wolfenbarger need with 118 CPs in Auction 93?

Maybe when he gets them all, he can be "National" broadcaster Bill Wolfenbarger.

Got a problem with that?

Part of the strategy. Pick and choose. Don't limit your options. He's not going to get all 118 and for sure he doesn't want them. Auction time at the FCC can be a bit like playing the tables. Bill is just walking up to the table with a winning attitude and a pocketful of options.

I know he's not going to get ALL of them. Money is a HUGE factor. He's NOT Clear Channel.

But where are all these stations anyway?

Take another look. A number of applicants ask for all of them. The way the FCC auction is configured, if you don't do it now, and later decide you want the one in Dumptruck, Iowa, it's too late.

It's okay for a board favorite to do something like this, but it's bad for Clear Channel to do it.

You must be new around here.

Hope you get a bunch Bill! AQH, you're right as always! I would never root for CC, rather go fishing than ever work for them.

;D

Hope you do get some Bill. Is the 107.3 KLSY CP in that auction (you said you wanted to move to Cosmopolis).

A little OT: I've been enjoying the Dial Global AC music mix, but because you don't stream, I listen to a station out of MN with the same sat-fed format. Does KSWW have Dial Global's Total Service (with Dave Hunter, etc.). Plus, are your local IDs still from back in the Hits & Favorites days? (if I ever listen to KSWW I still hear "We're the home of Today's Hits and Yesterday's Favorites").

I think most auction participants are only after a few, maybe even one. But when you only check one, the whole world knows what you're after. Plus when it comes auction time, you don't have any flexibility in moving your auction credits around. Those of you who understand the FCC auction process will totally understand, and those that don't, never will.

KLSY is a licensed station which I own and operate. I have been granted a CP to move to Cosmopolis and change frequency from 107.9 to 107.3. The auctions are for "allotments". When you are the high bidder, you have the right to file the "application for Construction Permit". Then you get the CP.

We do identifty as "Today's Hits and Yesterday's Favorites". We still have a local morning show with long-time local jock Rhys Davis.

I have real problems with the concept of streaming a terrestrial signal; if we ever decide to stream, it will not be a total simulcast of our over-the-air programming.

I'm curious Bill, what would a stream of one of your music stations sound like? If I understand right, there aren't very many total simulcasts out there between internet and terrestrial stations, KXXO is one of very few I know of, KITI-FM might be another one. You run some good stations and I'd like to be able to hear them up here at least online. You might be the best judge, how would you compare KSWW to KLSY if it had retained the AC format? It doesn't seem like there are many stations like KLSY left, possibly KMGL and WSPA. Wonder how the new signal will do once it is up, currently KSWW is barely audible at my grandparents', where KJET is strong.

KSWW around the Raymond area is awful (due to hills around Artic) so that's why there's K266BL 101.1 to cover the area. One more question for Bill: Do you guys have a licensed translator on 93.9? I was in the area last July and there was a 93.9 that repeated KSWW's programming that isn't in any databases I've seen...I heard their ID "KSWW Elma Montesano Aberdeen Hoquiam-A Part of Jodesha" so I am not kidding.

Nope. I have nothing on 93.9. Tell me where you heard it and I will sniff it out. Could be a mix? 105.7, 107.9, 101.1, all at the same Holy Cross site, plus a few non-comms.

The Montesano site is not high enough and doesn't hit Raymond well, thus the translator. 102.1 will be moving when 93.7 moves, and that should improve things.

The 93.9 could have been mixing product, but I heard it along US-12 and SR 109 all the way from Elma to Ocean Shores (mixing with KPDQ), and in Downtown Aberdeen at the Safeway gas station. By the time I reached Pacific Beach, it was gone, and KPDQ was alone, and 102.1 had gotten more staticky. I didn't hear it in Westport either. This was in late July 2011.

That mixing can get awful sometimes. When I was in Portland several years ago I heard a very weak KKCW 103.3 all the way down to 88.5.
