JV and Wild 94.9

I've been a die-hard fan of The Dog House and also a big fan of JVs, but I can't listen to him live in the morning anymore because the show is programmed by their program director. Non-stop music it seems and nothing but commercials.

I settle for the podcast and each time I look at the time of the podcast, it gets shorter and shorter. There was one day last week the podcast was only 30 minutes.

If I listen live, is there more content or does the podcast reflect how much content he can really do?

His "producer" Jon Manuel, seems like a nice guy, adds a little here and there, but mostly is a joke. He's a sycophant as evident from their little dust up a month or so ago when he wouldn't do something for the show. I believe JV wanted to bring in Hollywood for a day to teach Jon a lesson but the PD nixed that idea too.

Also, this year's Comedy Jam isn't even JVs Comedy Jam. Maybe since the lineup is pretty weak this year, he didn't want his name attached to it. I know JV hates Lisa Lampinelli -- I think he did a bit one time interviewing her as Grandpa V and slamming her.

I guess it's the sad state of radio today. JV can't be happy about it, but he's got to make a living and I can't blame him.

Your thoughts?

RKO_Me,
I can't agree with you more, I was a huge Doghouse fan also.... This is not the doghouse, and Jon's dedication to the show is limited at best (and he admits it over and over). Christy James is okay, but she is nothing more than the girl that keeps the show out of trouble. She can say things JV can't say... Radio is pretty sad these days.

I believe Dan, Lance and the whole crew from the Doghouse actually cared about making the show.... a SHOW. JV cares also, however he is one guy fighting a battle against suits that are scared. (Without the support of the on air staff I am sure he feels like the battle is not worth it). I believe all of this comes down to MONEY, first if Jon makes $50K/year I would be surprised. Lance (Hollywood) was making north of $90K/year (6 or 7 years ago)... Money is a strong motivator, however I don't believe if Jon made the same cash he would be as dedicated, for him this is a Job. Money also plays into the decision to make the show more about music and less about talk and stunts. Since JV came back the ratings at Wild have gone up considerably, it is undeniable that those ratings move up quicker when they play more music.... so the few thousand of us Diehards suffer. The station does what the majority of the people want.... that is play music, the diehards want a show back that was exciting.

Podcast is the answer, someone will need to blaze that trail before JV dedicates himself fully. JV and Elvis had something going in LA, however they were never consistent, you need to be on the air 4+ days a week for a year before you can judge success. Adam Corolla is experiencing huge success. 5 million people a month tune in. Phil Hendrie is also very successful with his podcast / airwave show. I wish nothing but the best for JV and I will continue to support him whatever he does.

The show is garbage, that "Jon" guy is a nerd to say the least. He sounds beyond goofy and out of touch. Cristie is extremely annoying and I can't stand to hear her voice and whining. JV must be hating this right now. The show is so PG it's disgusting. I think ratings go up when music is played because the content is not interesting or funny anymore. When it is people listen.

I do not believe people actually want to sit and hear the same 5 songs they play every single day for months. Are people really that sheepish that they want to turn on the radio and hear the same music they can hear on any of the other 3 clone stations that get played EVERY SINGLE HOUR EVERY DAY. I HATE HATE HATE. The music selection on all radio. Radio is dying because of the lack of variety of music. PERIOD. Why listen to that trash when Satellite plays new and a variety of artists or just play your Ipod. Radio used to be much better with more variety. Blame the death on your corporate greed.

By the way, Hollywood was making well over 300K per year

Phedeks,

Agree with you... However people do like the same crap music OVER AND OVER.... ratings show that to be true.

Also agree that Hollywood was in the 300K range with bonus and the extra money the show paid him. The contract for the show was 90K + bonus for a producer. The bonus in some cases can 3 or 4X the salary. Onetime when JV posted a PIC of Elvis check everyone was suprised how "little" he made.... that didn't include bonus. I have seen some contracts showing producer / co-host getting 75K per Quarter based on ratings.

Anyone else catch Elvis in studio with JV this morning? I heard bits and pieces after 8 p.m. Great to hear them back together although the chances of it being more than a one time deal are next to nothing.

I'm surprised the PD let Elvis in studio and I can only wonder how many phone calls that weren't aired that said to bring back Elvis and ditch Christie and Jon Manuel.

I called around and the word I got was they talked over each other a lot. Don't know if this will turn into anything but they'd better get a grip on the blather... I'm guessing Elvis thought it's be all about him.

I didn't get a chance to listen to the show this morning, but I heard it was great. I was a member of the Doghouse from August 1996-April 2005, which at that time, the show was cancelled. The BIGGEST thing I miss about The Doghouse are the prank calls and interviews that we did. They let me stay as an intern until August 2008, when Marc Apple, who was the promotions director at that time, decided to let me go :'( I miss the good 'ol days.

They play out the same songs because the average person takes 45 minutes to get to work. So they figure that they get some JV, and the hottest songs out.

Thats good for the spontaneous listener. Not good for the dedicated listener.

I have been a Doghouse fan since Hot 97.7. Followed to WiLD, FREE FM NY, DoghouseFM, and then back to WiLD. A month into it.... I changed the channel. Now Im just pod casting (like most of us do)

I cant wait till JV flips out on someone and takes charge. NOW THATS GREAT RADIO!!!!!
