JVC Broadcasting flips 101.5 from Party to La Nueva Fiesta

Tuned in around 8:30pm tonight to see that JVC Broadcasting has made the long anticipated move and placed their "La Nueva Fiesta" station onto the 101.5 frequency. This give the Spanish station coverage in both Nassau and Suffolk counties.

It did make sense to do that.

However I've read on some of the FB boards how a few folks that live in Nassau can't get PartyFM anymore since they depended on the 101.5 feed, being that they can't get 87.7 and are too far to pull in 105.3. I would think it's a somewhat small number, but it does make sense for JVC to send "La Nueva Fiesta" further west.

La nueva fiesta's reception in Nassau is just as fuzzy as the Party 101.5. Letting Nassau county residents and the city's residents to depend on the 87.7 signal is ridiculous. Why? One of the number one factors that made pulse 87 go under was that a large amount of listeners were automatically unable to listen to their signal because most radios do not have that 87.7 frequency! Not only did they automatically lose listeners(which were a couple of million) but they also lost advertising opportunities simply because business owners could not get the signal and neither could their customers. That frequency is horrible because people are not going to go out and purchase radios just to get the signal they just wont listen and that is a bad business move. Pulse 87 used to get thousands of emails everyday from people complaining that they wouldn't get the frequency. So now Party takes over 87.7 and whats different? Nothing! Still thousands or millions of new yorkers cant get the signal. Its a waste of time and money. Instead of these guys having a whole bunch of low power frequencies they should have one powerful one.

Maybe "these guys" don't have the $60 to $80 million needed to buy a full NYC signal.

That reason WASN'T the number one factor why Pulse failed. It was clearly the financial matters of Mega Media, that go back to 2004.

If anything, Pulse bailed water out of the sinking ship. But the ship was sinking anyway. For those that didn't get Pulse on the standard method, they DID download the "app" onto their iPhones or listened via the Internet. If things were so bad, then how did they get a million listeners, at one point, with their anomalies? And as much as David Eduardo and I may disagree on certain matters, he is right on one thing...it takes about $80M or so to get a frequency above 92 that covers the region.

I know of people that tuned in to Party on 101.5 that are "shut out" because they can't pull in 87.7 in certain parts of Nassau. Yet, I gotta say, it made some sense to hit into the Latino parts of Nassau....albeit it would be a 5th Latin station for the area when you consider "La Que Buena", "Amor 93.1", "X 96.3" and "La Mega"

I still think putting Fiesta on 101.5 is a huge mistake. The 87.7 signal is bad in eastern Nassau, and 101.5 is crystal clear. Besides Westbury, I dont see the signal reaching the heavily latino areas. Also the audio on 87.7 seems quite muffled, 101.5 had a much better airchain.
So folks in places like Massapequa and Levittown will pretty much stop listening. This was a very poor decision on JVC's part.

The signal in Massapequa on 87.7 is ok (I lived there till August now in S. Farmingdale), but 101.5 is clearly better. 101.5 does cover some other heavily Latino areas, you also have New Cassel (which is right next to Westbury) and Huntington Station. Amityville and Copaigue have a pretty large Hispanic population (the 101.5 signal is still pretty decent there though not much further east). Farmingdale also has a solid Hispanic population (though smaller than the others) and Levittown and Hicksville, have small but growing Hispanic populations.

I do however agree that I think taking it off 101.5 is a mistake, if for nothing else but the dial placement off 87.7 as many radios do not receive it. For example while I can pick it up fine on my car radio and the radio in my bedroom. I can't get a signal for 87.7 on my alarm clock radio (though that is due to the signal itself and weak reception on my alarm clock) or my main stereo which is in my living room (only goes down to 87.9)

Some clock radios have a short wire coming out of them - I took about 1" of insulation off of the wire and added about 10 feet of #22wire (though one can use between #18 and #24 wire) and also removing about 1" of insulation off the wire being added, and splicing the two wires together. HUGE reception improvement for our 87.7 in the Chicago area, and I'm 40 miles from the tower. It's worth a try, though as the disclaimer goes: "Your results may vary"

I live in the Levittown area and the signals (both 101.5 and 87.7) are as loud and clear as any other station from the city or the island. Being only 4 miles from the Suffolk line I'm pretty sure that I'm pretty much in Eastern Nassau. :)

Aren't there occasions where NJ 101.5 would dominate the W268AN coverage? Last year I've been around Eastern Nassau, I'd hear a combo of Party and Tommy G.

Not really. I did notice NJ 101.5 cut in on Sunrise Highway just to the west of the Sunrise Mall on my way to the train station. I no longer work in the city so am in that area much less than I use to, but it was generally only last a couple of seconds when it happened (basically a 50-100 foot stretch of the road if that). From time to time I noticed it cut into Party out in Lindenhurst though that is getting a bit further east.

As far as DX conditions, I only noticed NJ 101.5 knocking off Party a few times. Prior to the translator going up NJ 101.5 was pretty much a given around here any time we had a DX conditions, with the translator its quite rare.
