JVC car stereo

My JVC car cd player has lost half of it's fm sensitivity but the am is fine. What gives?? Has anyone else had a problem like this? The stereo has no local/dx switch as it is only a year old. I don't want to give up on this unit but I may have to. Even locals do not come in very well. Any ideas before I go to Best Buy???

Check your antenna connections and make sure the ground wire is on properly and securely. Check your owners manual and look under the specs and find out what the sensitivity and selectivity is rated at. JVC is rated I believe at 11dBF (depending on model) which is not good in terms of sensitivity for FM. But I hear JVCs have excellent AM reception though.

The FM was great and went down-hill all of a sudden. The AM never changed. I was guessing the tuner has issues. My clock radio was out-performing this unit.

Once it's determined that the tuner is okay, and you're otherwise happy with the car stereo, you may want to consider an antenna preamplifier, provided you're not too close to local stations. [You could always switch the preamp off if a local signal overloads - then you're in pass-through mode] Make sure it's a good one, like from Crutchfield: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_12044UA60/FM-Signal-Amplifier.html?tp=3351&tab=detailed_info. I couldn't locate one at radioshack.com, thought they used to sell one...

I never heard a stereo tuner working good one time and then takes a nosedive. Sounds like a defective stereo. If it is still under warranty, I would exchange it on another one thru JVC.

I never had a problem with this tuner until it got cold. This unit had excellent reception on FM. I did pull the unit out and tapped on the case and re-installed it and now works like it should. I'm thinking a bad solder joint or something like that.
