JVC KD-HDR1 Car radio

I just logged onto the Crutchfield site and found a JVC HD radio for $199. Does anyone here have any experience with this radio? Any recommendations for other HD radios? Thanks.

I had one when I was working at a station (needed to give it back when I was done with the job).

It worked well, seemed pretty sensitive. The only thing I didnt like is that you cannot save an HD2 station in the presets like you can with a Kenwood. Not that big of a deal.

Overall it sounded good and was pretty easy to operate.

Does that help?

I have one and I like it very much. What would you like to know?

I've got one and I love it. The tuner is superb. I can pull in HD and Analog very, very well.

Thanks for the replys. I plan to purchase this radio and will give you all a reception report from Cincinnati in the not too distant future.

I got one last summer, and was so pleased with it, I got another one for the other car.

The KD-HDR1 is the one I used for my recent experiment in Dallas. Needless to say, I'm very pleased with it.

I've had one in my truck since June 2006 and I'm generally happy with it. The FM analog performance is very good (and it does a fairly good job with FM IBOC, too), although unfortunately JVC did not include an RDS decoder.

However, the AM front end suffers overload to a much greater extent than most factory-installed radios. Apparently, there's insufficient selectivity ahead of the RF preamp and mixer. Noisy power lines in this area are a major source of interference. Don't expect AM IBOC to decode reliably unless you're getting a solid 10 mV/m or better signal.

I got a JVC KT-HDP1 for the station van when the station got HD and it works pretty nicely. I set it up in the cab of the van and in the rear of the van where there is a WALL of sound. the receiver in the back of the van picks up the signal really good.

Frankly.... I ust do not like the way AM HD sounds for News/Talk/Sports. It's not the receiver's fault. It's the way the individual station's engineers do HD. I much prefer the sound of AM HD, for all but AM HD Music stations..... there it shines..... But for other applications, the staions haven;t figured out how to tweak the singmal so it doesn't sound "funny" with New/Talk/Sports...

I agree Rover - AM HD audio is "bad on the ears" for new/talk/sports - in fact I wish that there was a 'force to analog' switch for that reason - cellphone calls really get 'on my nerves' on HD AM's codec on FOX sports and local talk shows too. HOWEVER, that being said, there is a local 2-hour adult standards show on Saturday morning, and it sounds really, really good, even though it's in mono - if it was in stereo, I would record it and post it. I still give analog AM stereo the quality edge for longer listening without fatigue.
