JV's Back ... Is Karel Next?

A post on the ba.broadcast Usenet group, picked up by the respected San Francisco Peninsula Press Club, predicts that Karel will be returning to the local airwaves soon -- perhaps as early as next week.

The ba.broadcast post reads:

Well it's official. Karel is going to be a syndicated on Energy 92.7 FM and KRXA 540 AM. The show airs Monday through Thursday from 9PM-12AM. Good to see Karel is back on the air.

Now, Karel has a "countdown clock" on his website, leading to next Monday (March 2):

What is it about KGO and ex-KGOers and dagnabbed countdown clocks? :D

So, Energy is going to plop a talk show into the middle of their morning? Or is Karel going to play dance mixes? ;)

Karel is quite knowlegable in music and entertainment, I m told...and I noticed he'd
occasionally talk about his bumper music in a scholarly way on his KGO shows...

His website bio also says of his being "an accomplished singer, actor, comic..."

We'll hafta wait and see...

Karel has limited knowledge of music and entertainment. As someone who puts on a weekly live music show, running the gamut of music genres, and is an accomplished musician (violin, accordion, and clarinet and voice to a lesser extent) I can say that Karel doesn't know much of anything about music. His knowledge of entertainment appears to be generally Hollywood-oriented, which is fine, but doesn't really suit a Bay Area audience, which isn't as enmored of Hollywood as people in LA are. I give him his kudos for having had a "dance" chart hit 10 years ago. But, music videos are as much (or more) about marketing than about knowledge of music.

Why is KNGY putting him on? Who knows. I think he's a bad fit. I think he belongs on an LA station, but maybe he's burned all his bridges down there? He certainly didn't have anything positive to say about working at KFI.

And KRXA? Why in the world would he be on a Salinas station? I don't think anybody's heard of him there.

Actually, KNGY has placed Karel in the 9PM to 12Mid slot Monday to Thursdays. In other words, more talk, less music.
