K-104.7 -- Who are these people?

I'll bite! K-104.7 seems to have re-staffed. Anyone have the lowdown on who these new folks are and where they came from? Voicetracked or live here in town?

Based on what's happened recently, I'll say VT'd from out of market. It's a shame, it looks like they had decent numbers over the summer.

I heard that...also heard that the market Chief was pink slipped also. I know him, and besides being a really talented engineer, he's also a top notch guy.

From what I heard this afternoon, the afternoon guy's name is "Allan." He sounded like he had a slight hint of an accent. What I found interesting is that he only said, "I'm Allan"... The "first name only" approach is very similar to what Fresh 102.7 does in New York. I haven't heard the other jocks to see if they only use their first name now, so I'm not sure if this is the new norm or if he only had time to say his first name over the music bed.

K used to be much more fun in between the songs than it is now... more personality used to shine. Only three talk breaks an hour now (the one at :10 with the backsell, the weather, and the PSA right before the top of the hour) mean that the station heavily relies on the same sweepers and jingles, which repeat quite often.

I hope that K stays the course as "Cool Songs K104.7" and doesn't "freshen up" after the holidays. The "Cool Songs" format is much more "fresh" to me as a listener. The jingles and the voicevers (as well as the personalities themselves) aren't as annoying as I find the ones in NY to be. The music mix is still quite true to the AC format (or the AC format as it is in the 21st century...). Besides, K seemed to have a nice summer book! Did quite a bit better than Lite 102.9. Congrats! They seemed to have Fall-like numbers (which includes Christmas K), which is quite impressive.

Anyway, back to the re-staffing... Does anyone know who the new morning drive personality is?

I heard yesterday 16 more CBS Charlotte staffers were let go. Anyone else hear this?

Testing123
That's correct.

I think the morning guy is the part-time overnight and weekend guy, Wanye Landers, according to the K104.7 website.

All of the K jocks presently on air are local and in the building...including yours truly. After all my colleague jocks were let go, the part timers were called to duty...until further notice. As I am sure you all know...it is out of our hands..we show up, work and leave. Allan has always only used his first name and he is our Public Service coordinator and runs the show on Sunday mornings for K and Kiss and has for years. He is not new.

The CBS stations are about the only stations in town where you can hear live, local jocks around the clock. Yes, every station in town has someone live and local in some dayparts, but CBS has been pretty consistent.

I have heard that all the sellers at K-107 were also let go? Anybody know anything about that.

Rumors...gotta love them. After all, without rumors life as we know it would be just plain jane...There's an old saying. Believe nothing of what you hear and fifty percent of what you see. So, the rumor about the sales staff being let go from K...Yep just a rumor...Same with the rumor of K going to FNZ-FM. Again, another rumor. To piggy back off Holly Haze. All the jocks you're currently hearing, those are the part-timers who've been called to the forefront. The morning guy, (His voice can be so hot at times. Love listening to him while I'm driving to work) is Wayne Landers. Kate Hall was asked to cover for Scarlet on her maternity leave.(What a set of pipes she has) Allen, like Holly mentioned as been there at the station for years doing the Public Service stuff...The Goddess herself Holly...she's not going anywhere. (Now If I just knew who to talk to there about letting her really open up and have a personality)..The station as a whole is not bad. Don't even get me on the sweepers and jingles thing that's a whole other topic all in it's self. I do agree though with the other blogger. The PD, if they even have one left should refresh those sweepers/jingles. One, they sound --- and second, they just plain suck...That's enough of my rant for now.

What that station needs and wha's been missing for some time now, the personality. The way radio use to be. Holly has such a great sounding voice, I would like to actualy listen to a show and not someone card reading. You can tell the jocks at times break away from the cut and dry junk. Only wish the moran that's running the station would let the jocks actually be just that, jocks!!! The jingles and sweepers between every flipping song... is that not the most stupidist thing? Ok, so they had great numbers. Make them even greater and get rid of the 80's radio jingles....SLEEPY, BORING....YAWN....Bring back personality radio.

Hello, Mcfly....you in there?

In all honesty, I agree about the personality. When K first started, I distinctly remember (sad that I remember this...) Scarlet C talking up the entire intro to "Game of Love" by Santana and Michelle Branch. The best part was, it wasn't liner card radio. She didn't just say "Here's Santana featuring Michelle Branch on Charlotte's Cool Music Station helping you de-stress during your workday -- K-104.7." Unfortunately, the more weight a consultant carries on a station and the more they tell the jocks to shut up and read what is written on the paper, the less exciting radio becomes for an avid listener. Don't always blame "the person who runs the station," like a PD or an MD. The issues often run deeper than that.

Nevertheless, an average listener really won't care about the jingles (which I actually DO think fit the format - it is a nice change from the overused Reelworld jingles being aired on most AC stations today) and the jocks. One of my relatives in Charlotte still believes that K-104.7 plays "oldies." The station, when it signed on, was heavily based on the 60's through the 80's with some 90's and now sprinkled in. That format I truly miss, but the station moved on with the times and still plays a decent amount of 60's and 70's hits.

I have always enjoyed listening to Holly Haze whenever I am in the area. I know some people have put her down on this board, but it can only be as a result of personal preference, for as an on-air personality, she does a great job.

I can't wait to be down in a couple of weeks for Thanksgiving and hear (hopefully) "Christmas K-104.7." My apologies to the on-air staff who will be spinning "Oh Holy Night" by Josh Groban every four and a half hours (and "Jingle Bell Rock" by either Hall and Oates or Bobby Helms every two). ;D

Oh, don't get me wrong, I enjoy listening to Holly. I just miss personality radio, the way radio use to be and the way it should be. Card reading is best suited for story tellers and books on cd. Add a few more talk breaks; take an occasional request from time to time. Interact with the listeners.

My comment about people criticizing Holly wasn't directed at you... I'm sorry if it seemed that way. I could tell that you were sincere when you said she had a great sounding voice and you enjoyed listening to her show.

But I completely agree that K could be so much better with more personality interaction.

Oh my heroes...you guys are making me blush. Listen tomorrow night to Friday Night 80's. I am "allowed" to be a bit more lax during that show. Other than that, it's liners babe. We go in and read how and what we are told to! Oh how i would enjoy cuttin loose. trust me.

Girl, that is what radio should be about. I don't hate, I despise "jukebox radio which is what way too many stations offer today.

I want personality, entertainment, news, sports, community stuff, conversation, interaction between air personalities, and listeners. I don't just want this from 6 - 9 am, I want it all day long.

If I am going to listen to the commercials, (you know the stuff that pays the bills) then I also believe that i deserve to get something I cannot get on CD's or an IPod.

If the stations are not going to give that to me, then I will just play my own CD's, and choose my own music - - without any commercials! And Likely I will listen to some stuff they would never play on radio anyway.

Keep up as much as they will allow Holly!!
