From Fox4 News (www.kdfw.com):

Juan "Hollywood" Morato, a DJ at the local radio station K104.5 FM, was arrested Friday on drug charges.

Police said the 26-year-old was found with cocaine and marijuana.

K104 station manager Gary Saunders said Morato is a new, part-time employee. The station is gathering information on his arrest.

SIDENOTE: What is this, the 48th jock to pass through DFW who calls himself "Hollywood"? Paaaahleeeeze.

I agree, theres too many idiots using the "Hollywood" moniker. Why dont they try another city like "Pasadena" or "Rancho Cucamuga", those deserve love too.

WHAT? A dj under suspicion of drugs? That is CRAZY. I suppose now you are going to tell me that there are major league athletes doing steroids. Or that someone from the Russ Martin Show will be brought up on GUN charges...Just plain crazy.

...makes a pretty good radio name..."coke and grass". That could be the name for the new mid day show on live.
How about " DJ High 4 Life ".

Damn shame. He is K104's only mixer. It figures everyone would make a joke out of this, being the station is a hip hop station.

Oh, c'mon. I didn't see a single comment that was aimed at the guy's place of employment, or about race or anything else. Nobody asked the guy to take a risk like that, and there's been plenty in radio before him who've done it and got caught. I won't name names, but some were from The Zoo, Q102, even KVIL, etc...none of which fit the hip-hop or "gangsta" lifestyle or any other stereotype.

And no, making a hip-hop guy look bad was not my intention in posting this in the first place. It dealt with a local radio station employee making news, and had it been Ron Chapman, I'd have posted it just the same.

26 years old...the guy should know better. Talk about ruining perhaps his only chance in this market.

And since when is Ken Dowe not the station manager anymore?

Yeah, because "Greggo" wasn't the subject of any jokes with HIS drug problem.

Figures everyone would make a joke out of that, with The Ticket being a hip-hop station and all... ::)

Aren't you the same guy who said K104 only hires cheap labor?? I guess they got what they paid for. The poor guy probably had to earn money slingin' since they hire "cheap labor".

It has nothing to do with Hollywood or what happened to him. Like I've said over and over again and will keep repeating it, when it comes to the discussion of urban radio on this board, it's never taken seriously. Salem is the only other person besides me that discusses urban radio like you discuss KLLI, KVIL, KZPS, etc.. That's it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "taken seriously". Both, K104 & The Beat are in the top 10 ratings-wise. They're serious players in the market, and quite frankly are doing things the right way. Most folks on here complain a lot, or dog out stations who are spiraling downward. It's kinda hard to do that with those 2 stations, so maybe that's why they aren't brought up very much..

i've worked with him before, so like i said before....no surprise.

Buc, lose the shoulder chip brother. All I and many others have said is our tastes are different, which is a good thing. Id rather have different formats out there than just a bunch of cookie-cutter top 40/urban/latin/country clones hogging up the airwaves like they do now. It doesnt have to do with the station, which is a decent run place, it has do with the mentality of the fool who got his sorry ass in trouble.

Like I said before, this doesn't have anything to do with Hollywood, and if I do have a chip on my shoulder, it's been put there by stereotypical references as "ghetto", and "gangsta" when mentioning hip hop radio. Do I use the term "redneck" when a country station is mentioned? Do I use the term, "devil worshipper" when a rock station is mentioned? We shall overcome my ass....

Buc, the only time ive used ghetto/gangsta in conversation is when I refer to a fools mentality, not to a group of people or a place. To me, theres alot of true hip-hop (read: not kristal soaked, jewelry wearing, 14 gunshots in one sitting BS) out there that doesnt get its respect in urban radio. Guys like Del, The Funky Homosapian, Talieb Kwei, N.E.R.D and Asheru that dont get airplay they rightfully deserve because too many urban stations are afraid to take a political stance as that may scare off the "respectable" business owners or preachers who buy time on the station.  In a day and time when we need more Petey Greens, we have clowns who play up to stereotype and act the fool like this moron did.

Now that is true Slam. But overall there is more bad music outthere for all music formats than there is good music. Music radio suffers because the record companies want these particular artists played, but yet radio has to play the hits to make the money they need to survive. We all want particular musical tastes on the radio, but we are not getting it. That's why iPods, and mp3 players and SiruisXM are becoming serious players in the industry. I have gone over this time and time again, no radio station today wants to buck the trend because they have to turn a profit right now instead of growing the format. Its the instant gratification syndrome instead of having steady sure growth. What do you do?
