K 97.5 moving south

South Boston VA licensed WQOK 97.5 has just been granted a permit to move its tower south into the triangle and licensed to CARRBORO

Yes, this will greatly reduce the signal everywhere except the immediate R-D metro, and I doubt very seriously if there will be any great improvement there. The main result will be thousands of urban listeners will loose their only urban signal, especially in VA. I don't care what anybody says, this is a very stupid move on the part of Radio One. They are destroying one of the few class C stations they possess. I guess they like the situation they have in Charlotte where neither of their stations can compete outside of Mecklenburg Co.

Sounds like the reverse of 102 Jamz; their signal (I think it is 100,000 watts) comes in clearly the farther west you go on I-40/85, but it fades in and out around here. I ran into the same thing with WGBT--- before they went Spanish I picked them up when I could--- whose signal is also 100,000 watts, but I suspect what blocks the 94.5 signal here is the 94.7 signal...

WGBT is directional to the east in order to protect WQDR and maybe WRVQ. They have a excellent signal north and south.

Not south. Not far from where I live WMUU takes over. I even heard WYEZ early in the morning (Which is a GOOD thing, Axel!).

its sad that they are doing this..I won't be able to hear russ parr in greensboro no more (only time they are worth listening to)..eh..radio one is sucking fupid, its funny how 102 with its poor to non-existent signal in the triangle winds up in the arbitron book after book, my friends put up with the static cuz they cannot stand K......they don't know how to program an urban period..K97.5 has the worst personalities, only one good mixer (the other went to 102)...,IMHO..they are the worst programmed urban on the east coast....and Foxy puts me to sleep....
on second thought..maybe it was a good thing they downgraded.

I know 3 stations in the east will be celebrating this to finally get this former class C pest out of their back yard, WRSV 92.1, WPWZ 95.5 and WYTT 99.5

K97.5 will never be the same since CRAPPY-ONE..bought it. Neither will FXC or FXK, look at how they messed up the legendary KKBT in LOS ANGELES. They don't want to spend money to make the stations sounds worth anything.

What about WZFX Foxy 99 in Fayetteville, i believe they have a 100k stick...i think it reaches from Myrtle Beach all the way to Raleigh.

again Crappy One was stupid and cheap for chopping QOK's 100k signal.

WZFX is the strongest urban in NC (programming wise)...102 Has the biggest signal...100kw @1200 ft vs WZFX 100kw at 900ft.....the weakest urban in NC remains WYTT (technically va) with 1200 watts at 475 ft.....correction..WEJM Greensboro (power 106) with 100watts at 89ft .....clear channel can mop the floor with WQOK if they blow up 100.7 or 106.1....they did it in richmond with 106.5 the beat WBTJ...in 2-3 books they murdered 10+ year market dominator 92.1 Power 92 WCDX which is owned by radio one...

I don't know about 102 having the strongest urban signal in NC---I think WPEG has that covered. You can't hardly beat Winston-Salem to Greenville (SC) to the northern burbs of Columbia with a little bit of eastern Tn. thrown in on the side. Not so sure about WZFX being best programed either---I'll take PEG any day...

i wonder if CC-R will put an urban in raleigh to compete with k-975. I would put it on 106-1 and change 100-7 back to the river before it was classic rock. Just my opinion

As far as best programmed, 'PEG probably has 102 Jamz beat, but that isn't saying much IMO. I'm not much of a fan of the morning show, although they do some admirable community work, or the evening show. Maybe it's because I'm an old 36 year old.

For Raleigh, K97.5 is ripe for the picken'. A new urban station would blow them off the map. The same can be said for 107/104 if a new Urban AC were to enter the market, especially if they signed on Steve Harvey in the morning.

Winston-Salem? Doesn't WBRF mess them up?

Where I live 102 Jamz doesn't have a dependable signal. WBAV used to not have that good a signal but it seems to have improved, but the two would naturally interfere with each other.

Being said.....i think CC should flip 93.9 WKSL...which is already Rythmic AC....to full URBAN AC and sign Steve Harvey....(KISS 94) and then should flip 100.7 to Urban (Hot 100) and birng a local morning show to go up against Sydnication --Parr. Then put Classic Rock back on 106-1 RDU where it was before.

whoops....yeah, PEG has 102 beat in the coverage, living in greensboro I was able to get WPEG until a bible blaster LPFM came on the air in burlington...I work in winston and catch PEG from time to time but usually i'm yapping on the phone....I still stand by WZFX....

but yeah...clear channel has the potential to dethrone both stations...but if you go back about 11-15 years ago...clear channel owned WQOK and WFXC WFXK as well as 1490
