K-BIG SUGGESTION

Wouldn't SWEDISH EAGLE or HUMPTY VISION sound nice over at K-BIG
I would think so , for what k-big is trying to do , I mean it wouldn't hurt
I think it's time to bring back the classic POWER 106 playlist of the 80's early 90's , if JACK can pull it off why not K-big

Ah, I wondered when our club DJ who thinks he's a great radio programmer would chime in.

K-B-I-G (call it by the right name) isn't going to move that far from their AC leanings. Egil (again, could you get names right?) would bring a music mix that would be radical for the new format. Humpty, a bit less so, but still a poor fit.

And isn't most of the old Power playlist from then already being played on K-Day?

Well I noticed that most of the recurrents that K-B-I-G is playing does reminds one of KPWR's early years.

BTW didn't KBIG just hired KPWR alumni Joeseph "Boomer" Cervantes for weekend/swing duties?

Maybe K-B-I-G should try a KTU format. Play a mix of disco, freestyle, classic dance and fresh beats. I could see that. I know some might say it might hurt kiis, but kbig is slowing dying. Another suggestion would be to play more boogie nights music during the day and have a noon time mix of new dance music in the mix during the day with some freestyle/80's and 90 pop music too.

KDAY plays a mix of old and new hip-hop -- and is slowly moving toward more new and less old. They don't play a single drop of dance...

Clear Channel doesn't really like the KTU format. It's allowed to survive since it does decently well and would cost them a lot more to blow up. Notice that CCU has never put this format on even one other CCU station. They inherited KTU from AMFM. It was Jimmy de Castro who brought KTU back. And they him at CCU.

A format such as KTU would not hurt KIIS. Maybe in the past but not where KIIS is now. KTU has survived just fine alongside sister mainstream CHR Z100 and sister CHR/Rhythmic (Hip Hop) Power 105.1.

I disagree with Glenn. I think it would hurt KIIS a little bit - although the fact that they own, they could likely tweak it properly. Z100 is a dramatically different station from KIIS - so that comparison is unfair. Power 105 is an Urban station - not rhythmic and plays a ton of R&B - and has nothing in common with WKTU.

I checked Mediabase and according to them, KDAY's mix of new and old has stayed the same... Power's old hip-hop is being played on KDAY but the dance music has seen some light on KBIG, if at all...

Shouldnt Kbig first drop that awful psychic crap that it does every nite if they expect their ratings to improve? Why in the world would they put that crap on a music station every nite is beyond me.

A KTU like station - which also plays a ton of R&B - would not hurt KIIS. It might hurt Hot 92 Jamz. But it would not work in this market anyway.

Power 105 is not sold as an Urban station. It's sold as a Rhythmic CHR. It is rhythmic. For that matter, you can also call KJLH rhythmic which was know briefly in the early 90's as "Rhythm 102.3". I gave Frankie Ross the suggestion. He was playing heavy - for its time - street rap within the (failed) format.

I'm a big fan of their THUMP RADIO program and I wish it would expand to earlier time. My biggest gripe about it is that they re package the same disco tunes but to dance music. Last night was one of the better nights. The later part of the show was mostly music. We already hear Madonna's "Like a prayer " and Kool and the Gang's " Ladies Night" enough during the regular hours, so we don't need to hear re tooled versions set to dance music. Where's the new music in that? THUMP advertises itself as the next wave. Well, give us new music then.

After reading that, I'm not sure whether you really like the program or not ...

"Expand it to an earlier time" then "my biggest gripe"?

Did you not understand? The dance / trance / house/ whatever you want to label it music is what makes the show. That's what I want to hear. The bad point is that they try to turn old disco / pop / rock/ songs into something new. I really don't want to hear Elton John's "Rocket Man " done to a dance beat. The best music is the music without singing to it. You have heard the show, right?
When they advertise " The next wave of music " then that's what it should be.

Yes, I have heard it. But if you are dissatisfied with the show, then you shouldn't be lobbying for a better time slot for it.

Why not? I should wait until midnight till 3:00 a.m.? That's the only time I tune into the station with the exception of Disco Saturday Night. And I don't remember me saying I was dissatisfied with the show. Don't make this sound like something it's not.

From your first post ... go back and look ...

That sounds like dissatisfaction to me.

I agree it's awful, but nighttime listenership doesn't account for boof in the ratings. As far as most people are concerned, they turn the radio off for the evening when they step out of the car and walk into the house.

Thank you, Mr. Lawyer.
Also from my first post " I'm a big fan of their THUMP RADIO program and wish it would expand to earlier time ".
Now point out to me EXACTLY where I said I'm dissatisfied with their show.

"Sounds like...." Nice try, Mr. Matlock. Watch a few more episodes and brush up on your arguing.

I don't need to do anything more. Your complaint above stands on its own.
