K-Duck 100, KLAZ and other ramblings....

Last night was my first time to hit this thread and I love it. So any former k-duck talents lurking?

I did have a few short comments on some of the things I saw. RE: Eddie Tarpley in Hot Springs. I
worked for Eddie and never had a problem with him. In fact he sent a station staffer to my house
the day after I was fired. The GM was leaving and thought on his last day that I needed to be put
on the beach. Eddie took his job and had me back on the air in 48 hours. KLAZ really has a awesome
signal and needs to avoid trying to be a Little Rock Station and focus on their community. There is a lot that
can be done there. I think anyone would agree. Getting a hold of that station with that kind of signal
and a place on Lake Hamilton could lead to a pleasant way of life.

Sorry to hear about the passing of Michael P. I enjoyed working with him. I did not know Steve Medley
but heard him on the air and it was obvious he enjoyed what he did.

I saw a few people trashed LR talent in the threads. Kinda sad to see. Most we're underpaid and did the
best we could to make listening to the radio fun.

Duck people start quacking!! What's up?

Decoy out!

For years, KLAZ had TOH IDs as KLAZ Hot Springs/Little Rock/Benton. Over the last couple of days, I heard them for the first time in several years and they IDed themselves as KLAZ Hot Springs. Yet, I believe that they still have the construction permit to move their tower from south of Hot Springs to east of Malvern to better serve Little Rock.

They don't seem to have a night jock anymore and it has lost some of unique sound and personality that used to be there. I have noticed some changes musically since the last time I heard them. They still are a Hot AC/CHR hybrid, but the dayparting between the two is not near as severe as once was. For years they were Hot AC by day with a fair amount of 80s and even the occasional 70s spike thrown in there during the mornings and middays. At night, they were a full fledged CHR. It was not uncommon to hear Kansas "Dust In The Wind" and 50 Cent "In Da Club" within the same calendar day. However, the playlist has been tightened and seems to be not quite as polarized between day and night and also has less "stiffs" than it used to have. Even though it doesn't feature as much older gold and younger end CHR records, I still heard Journey "Don't Stop Believing" and Estelle "American Boy" during the morning show.

When I worked there during that Hot Springs/Benton/Little Rock era the MGMT really wanted
to make an impression. One of the things we did was have fun with the music. We wanted to
sound different than what was going on in Little Rock at KKYK. The sales people we're in limo's in LR
visiting agency types trying to woo some of the LR dollars but it never really got anywhere
and after a few months the "extended legal ID" was gone.

I have not heard the station in sometime. I don't guess they ever really made a impression
in LR.

I remember there were some books in the mid 90s when they would get above a 1 share 12+ in Little Rock. This was shortly after KZOU became B 98.5 and KKYK went talk and there was a hole in the market for a CHR. I don't think they have shown up in the LR ratings since that hole has been filled.

It would be interesting to see how the tower move would affect the signal getting into Little Rock. I remember getting into Benton and starting to have issues with the signal in my car. Could be a good canidate for a translator but I've not really seen a good example of one of those really doing any good. I have not looked to see if they stream to hear whats up but I may check it out and see what kind of mix they have going on.
