The ones that go: KRTH Los Angeles! ?

If that's the right one I'm thinking of, I haven't heard those in years. Not since I was listening heavily in the Morgan and RDS era.

Yeah, I heard them this morning as well. Maybe they switched packages?

Just listened to the ID around the 3pm TOH on 1/6/06 and indeed, they have switched back to their old ID from the Drake era of KRTH. But, it does sound like they had Charlie Van Dyke re-record his voice for the jock intros within the ID-that is to be expected though.

From the entertainment captial of the world...

Johnny Mann Man!

Actually was their really a Drake era from KRTH? Someone on the oldies board referred to these as the "rum pum pum" Jingles. I like to think of them as the "Ba pa ba ba bab ba" Jingles:)

And CVD has voiced those jingles for quite some time! Go Jhani go!

If that's what is sung in the jingle,
one hopes Jhani still has Charlie's
track dropped inside the :50 stopset
where he says--

"KRTH-FM Los Angeles..." etc.

--since "-FM" is part of their callsign
(per the FM Query on the FCC site).

Actually Bill Drake was associated with the station back when it was KHJ-FM.
Also for quite a bit of the era when Mike Phillips was the PD Drake was the station's consultant.
Edited by calguy on 01/07/06 08:26 AM.

I know, I lived it. However when we think of Drake in L.A, we think of KHJ, and even KIQQ too! Sure he was there pre 73, but KRTH was a Lap Top Computer back then. Correction KRTH was this giant wall of equipment back then, with more instacarts than I have ever seen :)

Check out the Link for some cool, clean, and refreshing Johnny Mann jingles. Even Steve Ray has his own jingle for his home Telephone. This was to convince people he was really the "last of the Boss Jocks". He tells the story to this day, nobody called...

Does anyone remember what the original plan for 101.1 was? It wasn't Oldies.
______________

You are correct Sir! What was it again?

Didn't you post part of that tidbit before?. I just remember the pathetic original live days of 'Cheriee' and company.

No Theme This Weekend

Did anyone notice there is no theme, i.e. Super Sixties Weekend etc. Not that these theme weekends have meant anything lately. Still the same 300 over and over.

From what I understand there will be changes, changes for the good if you're an Oldies fan. Give things some time.

Re: 300?

Thought they expanded that recently? It might be 1,011 oldies now. I've been hearing 70s stuff and not as frequent either.

You may be hearing 70's stuff but the playlist is still rather tight. I heard "On Broadway" by George Benson three times this week. Their powers aren't rotating like they were - but you are still looking at about 350 songs getting 4 spins/week or more and less than 500 over 2 spins/week...

Re: The new P.D. has been there for 3 Days

He's in the best spot possible - it can't get any worse. This station has been virtually unlistenable for some years now. Anything he does will seem new and fresh by comparison. Bringing back heritage jingles is a nice (and obvious) place to start. But this station needs major surgery, not a band-aid. I hope you are right about these changes.

A Quote from one of his Minions

Keep in mind Flip I'm 3000 Miles away, but this is what one of his Weekenders says..."I think everyone should fasten their seatbelts!!!"

Personally though, who knows?

Maybe that means they'll bring back all the pre-Beatles stuff, such as doo-wop.

And please, nobody "Oh Masta, Masta, Masta..." me this time. It really hurt my feelings the last time one of you (you know who you are) did it. My opinion is just as valid as those of the rest of you. One of the many reasons I am proud to be an American is that I can I have and express my own opinion without having a gun to my head. So this applies to all of you: If you don't respect my opinion, don't expect me to respect yours, OK?

Happy radio-listening! KRTH, Los Angeles!

Why that was me, and I never wanted to hurt your feelings.

I'll be gentile with you. I respect your opinion, and would never want to besmirch your good name. Honestly though, I don’t think they will bring back the doo wop, and pre Beatles stuff, however as you said your opinion is just as important as any poster here. I would not want to hurt your feelings, and if I did so, may I apologize from the bottom of my Hiney. Everyone's opinion counts here, and I respect you Sir. Time will tell, and I appreciate you expressing your thoughts. May God bless you for your honesty! Let's keep tuned!
