Except that no one has proposed any legislation that would help do that. In fact, laws that once prevented people who had been identified as mentally ill from buying guns were repealed. So now most of the school shooters were allowed to buy guns legally and use them to kill children and teachers before taking their own lives. That's the world we've lived in for the past 5 years.
