K-Earth's #1 Music Weekend.....1985

Finally, (after 26 years) found the list of all the number ones that KRTH played over Labor Day Weekend back in 1985. Could not believe my eyes at first, but here it is:

This is what KRTH is all about!!

Great KRTH memories from the 80's!!

I remember listening to it in 1982-83. They should note that these were the #1 songs in chronological order for the Los Angeles market, hence, I see some songs such as "Shaddap Ya Face" and "Valley Girl" that didn't even get into the Billboard Top 10 singles charts. Very interesting. Some #1 Billboard songs didn't hit #1 in L.A. either. Compare and contrast.

Joe Dolce's "Shaddap" was number 1 in the UK- interesting to see it was a big hit in Los Angeles but only got to number 53 on Billboard nationally!

(According to Wikipedia that is!)

That's cause the single got major airplay on the Mighty 690 at the height of its popularity.

Wow its interesting that 26 years later KRTH plays 80's music under the Oldies Brand while back in 1985 KRTH played 80's music under the Top 40 format.

"Those Oldies But Goodies Remind Me of KEARTH ONE-OH-ONE..." Yes, that is the brand that built the legend!

I remember that the weekend before Labor Day, KRTH used to do a Runners Up of Rock Music Weekend. It played songs in order that reached #2 on the L.A. singles chart, but never hit #1.

I liked those weekends better. Much more interesting choices.

Great memory! That countdown used to go through faster, since there were fewer #2's than #1's.
And they did it two times over, Friday at noon through Sunday night.

The following weekend (Labor Day Weekend) they'd have that extra day (Monday) to finish that countdown a second time around.

K-Earth 101 needs to revive these specials again.
