K-Love and 20: The Countdown Magazine

What is up with 20: The Countdown Magazine when it is broadcast on K-love? Unlike other stations where "20" is broadcast, Jon Rivers is missing as the host! A guy named Garek Whitehead (the program producer, I believe) is the host when the show is broadcast on K-Love. I heard the afformentioned Mr. Whitehead do the show on K-Love yesterday (the "Wow 2010" special), but heard Jon Rivers do the very same countdown on all the other stations where "20" is broadcast.

Does it have anything to do with his leaving K-Love? Some kind of contractual thing, maybe? It must be permanent because he never mentions being the guest host, and "Jon's Future Favorites" are simply called "the future favorites". It seems weird that even if Jon Rivers is no longer at K-Love, that his voice cannot even be heard on his very own synicated program!

Josh,

The majority of the ads in "20" are non-comm friendly. It would seem like something could be worked out.

We receive the Jon Rivers version.

I agree , you would think they would be elated to get the station out to as many radio stations as possible but they won't budge. I would believe that the role of WestarMediaGroup is to promote the program in a way as to get it on as many radio stations as possible. - Cater to the Stations Needs...

That's not what they're doing - their position "Take it like it is"

I tried to get them to delete the spots or make them noncomm friendly friendly and they outright refused.

I also mentioned to them that many more stations would be willing to broadcast the program if they set up generic file names so the program could be downloaded weekly without any operator intervention using the software program, Radio Spiders (as WAY-FM does for radio stations that broadcast their programming). - They refused even though it would free up a lot of time for radio station production people.

Josh,

If you have the resources (music), with a couple of local underwriters you could do your own countdown.

That's what I did back in the early '90s with "Capital City Christian Countdown." We had the music and figured out chart positions on a local basis.

We were not a non-comm, so we ran spots. I produced the program in-house. I had to record everything in "real time" in those days so it took about 2 1/2 hours every week.

I'm no longer in Christian radio as such, but carry "20" on my country station. I did work in
Christian radio from 1983 to 2004. Now there's no work to be had in that field on a local basis.

Merry Christmas!

It sounds like a great idea but we have too much work and can't take on any further burdens.

We like the syndicated programs to run on the off hours, overnights etc.

Not sure how I missed this topic when it was originally posted, but would the above information account for all the chart oddities in late 2009 and early 2010?
On the weekend of November 7-8, 2009, there was quite a shake-up on the chart, with six debuts - including a few songs that had been on other Christian charts for weeks (i.e. "Sing, Sing, Sing" by Chris Tomlin), and two big chart jumps into the Top Ten. The week after, however, all the songs that had debuted dropped out and the ones that had fallen out the week before were back - in other words, a continuation of how the chart looked before the very brief change.
There was another shake-up the last week of November, with an unusually high volume of debuts, "Revelation Song" by Phillips, Craig & Dean falling from 1 to 12, and "Sing Sing Sing" re-entering all the way up at #9.
For the first three months of 2010, the chart was slower than ever - the biggest one-week move during that period was four spots. At the end of March, however, there were nine debuts on the chart and ever since then, the chart has been moving at a respectable speed. Are these chart oddities connected with Jon leaving K-Love? (since the K-Love network was said to be a big part of figuring the chart)

I was going to bring this up in another thread but revently I've been hearing Jon Rivers doing voiceovers on AFR, so apparently he must be working again. Considering that K-LOVE doesn't have a morning show team at the present time (JD Chandler is filling in) I wonder what the chances are of Jon & Sherry coming back?

I don't think the demographics will work this time around for him to come back.

There are some really talented people that are available. joshzz

One of the oddities of "20" is that the download for the program comes nearly a week and a half before airing. Essentially, the program is at least a week behind the charts. This is the Jon Rivers edition.

As for a new morning team at K-LOVE, I'm sure they will come up with a talented crew, as per the post by Josh.

I thought I heard him on AFR yesterday too.
Glad I wasn't imagining things.
